Four nominations from Kundapur, 14 from Byndoor

Kundapur, Apr 18: With the filing of nomination by a candidate on behalf of BSR Congress on Wednesday April 17, which happened to be the last day for filing nominations for the coming assembly election, a total of four nominations stand filed for the local constituency. K H Ibrahim Kota, who represents BSR Congress party, arrived at the office of the sub-divisional officer here along with his supporters on Wednesday afternoon, filed his nomination papers.

Ibrahim was accompanied by party leaders like Dinesh, Manjunath Balkur, Ratnakar Siriyan, Girish Hande, Shyamsundar Nairy, and others.

In the neighbouring Byndoor constituency, the number of contestants has swelled this time. The total of nominations filed so far for this constituency has touched 14. G M Abdul Ajeed from Gulwady and Lokesh Borkar from Shiroor, both of whom are testing their luck as independent candidates, had filed their nomination papers on Saturday. On Monday, former MLA, K Gopal Poojary, K Shankar of CPM, and Uday Kumar Tallur on behalf of BSP, submitted their nominations. On Tuesday, independent candidates, Sridhar Pedemane, KJP rebel candidate, Ganesh Prasad Shetty, and Manjunath Naik from Kerady, who represents JDU, had filed their nomination papers.

On Wednesday, BJP candidate, B M Sukumar Shetty, KJP candidate, Navinchandra Shetty Uppunda, JDS candidate, Surayya Banu, and several independents filed their nominations.

The number of nominations filed therefore, has touched 14, the highest so far in the history of Byndoor constituency since it was created. However, clearer picture about the actual number of candidates remaining in the fray will emerge only after the last day for withdrawal of nominations.

Sukumar Shetty arrived at the office of the taluk panchayat, where the office of the Byndoor constituency electoral officer is located, on Wednesday morning, accompanied with hundreds of his supporters, for filing his nomination as a BJP candidate. Former Byndoor MLA, K Lakshminarayan, zilla panchayat member, Babu Shetty, Byndoor BJP constituency committee president, Pranay Kumar Shetty, and others were with him at that time.
