Gang-raped by eight men, 13-year-old attempts suicide

New Delhi, Apr 21 (IANS): A 13-year-old girl attempted suicide Saturday after being allegedly gang-raped by eight men, four of whom are known to her. She is in ICU in serious condition, the family said.

Three of the accused have been arrested, police said Saturday.

The girl, who was abducted March 15 by the men and released after nine days, consumed an overdose of sleeping pills in the morning at her house in Farsh Bazar area in east Delhi.

She is admitted at the Hedgewar Hospital in east Delhi. "She is in serious condition," her mother told IANS. She said that her daughter was upset after watching on TV reports of the brutal rape of the five-year-old girl in east Delhi.

The victim's family has complained of police apathy in the case.

Police had failed to act on the rape complaint, but were forced to do so on the orders of the Karkardooma court, which the family approached April 9 after police reportedly took no action on their complaint.

The incident comes even as the capital is witnessing outrage over the rape of a five-year-old girl whose family has alleged that Delhi Police tried to bribe them with Rs.2,000 to hush up the rape. Three Delhi Police officials, including an Assistant Commissioner of Police, have been suspended for failing to act promptly in the rape case or behaving properly with protesters.

The 13-year-old victim and her 12-year-old brother were abducted by two men known to her on March 15 from outside her house at Farsh Bazar area in east Delhi and taken to Loni in the city outskirts. There six accomplices of the two abductors joined them and raped the girl in a house, a police officer said. The boy was released the next day.

Police arrested three accused - Deepak, 21, Ranjeet (20) and Sohan Lal (24) - Saturday, following medical examination of the victim April 15.

Police claim that the father approached police after she went missing, but did not file a rape complaint after she returned home.

But the girl's family has alleged that police had refused to lodge their rape complaint.

The girl's mother told IANS that her daughter returned home after nine days on March 24. However, police failed to act on the missing person complaint and conduct a search for the girl.

After the girl returned home, the parents approached police to file a rape case, the mother told IANS.

But failing to get any response from police, the family then went to the local court April 9 which then ordered police to lodge a rape case.

A search is on to nab the other accused, the officer added.

Delhi has seen 393 rapes in the first three months of the year.

@ Ashwin colaco , Even if its not the right thread to speak about it , but still want to mention some points. The reason for lower conviction rate is because of rising false cases too ( just like false 498a domestic harrasement ). The reason for not implementing strict laws is becoz some greedy women mis using clauses and using against men. Excluding the above cases , there r some other cases where a girl after healthy relationship create upset in court citing non consent. On theother side we have pathetic cases like gang rape including assault on five yr old girl. ......

So such cases need harsh punishment rather than going after each and every one. Law should be fair for all. If it about fund rising then there r other cases too . I will like to contribute cases like innocent victims in jail , man prosecuted becoz unfair laws , rising farmer suicides in maharashtra , increasing orphan senior citizens. To name some .

    Statistic quoted : 393 rapes in 3 months .
Delhi : Capital of the country ...
who will take the initiative to sort out these 393 cases.. Even if we were to wipe the slate clean for all the previous years and solve each of these cases ( not necessarily all convictions), but an end result wouldn't that send the right message across to all and sundry .
A person like me can quit his job and follow up on each case , but will i get any information from the policeabsolutely not ... Then how does one aspire to solve this ?
If a person like Sonia, Sheila Dixit , Sushma Swaraj, and brinda Karat take it upon themselves to issue a 7 day deadline to the commissioner for a thorough and the dossier on their desk within 7 days , you will have a 100% answer... Unfortunately the elected representatives are elected based on caste , creed , community and care only about themselves ...
lets all do some introspection not only about these rapes and writing and condemning each other on Daijiworld , but how best can we transpose this system .
    ANY SUGGESTIONS ?
I have one - I dont know any of these leaders and anyways they wont help either . Lets start a fund on Daijiworld for each rape case .
if we can get an enterprising bunch of lawyers who will take up each case ( lets start ) with the capital and see how it progresses, and we can pay them from a trust fund that we initiate through Daijiworld. If nothing else it would cover up their expenses and everyone has to earn a living so do the lawyers, atleast we would have a definete tracking system .
At Rs 5000 per case it will cost us approx 20 lakh rupees to have a judgement for all cases .
I contribute the first Rs 50,000 for the same and will let Walter Nandalike handle the fund .
Even if each one of us contributes just a small amount well definetly obtain success and prove that we dont need the elected government to run this country Just the judiciary should suffice.
Please respond with your comments and suggestions
    Regards

Main reason for Delhi s repeated rapes is that majority ofN.India is having female scarcity coz of female foeticide.Migrants whoever come to Delhi takes an advantage as it a most advanced city in N.India.....Rapists should be half buried upto waist on the sand and public should pelt stones on upper part of the body and like the below commentator it should b a live telecast. If i become one day i ll surely do this....this punishment is in act in Iran. All the rapists should rot in hell forever n ever

Since Delhi has acquired the notoriety as RAPE CAPITAL OF INDIA, only way Indians can save their Face is by Shifting the India's Capital itself to the middle of India somewhere near Maharashtra-MP Border say Nagpur.
As it is, the Present Capital Delhi is not in the Centre of India, and it is giving advantage for migration of notorious labours from UP, Bihar Jharkhad, Rajasthan, and disadvantageous for migration of decent labours from South India, Maharashtra & Orissa.

The main reason for all these crimes is our Governments who ruled us from 1947. They never think about to change the law time to time and they keep on looting the national wealth. Day by day people become masters in crime by getting the help of loopwhole of our weaken law. People learn from our politicians how they can play with law and how they use the administration with money power and how they can influence investigation agency by the power or their powerfull contacts. The people who are all having evil mentality are fearless of law. For these all we have to give credit to our governments who ruled us from 1947.

For these two leg legged wild animals, forest in the only place to roam around however the Indian capital has turned as another forest with a bunch of dressed animals! These bewildering news is flashing around the world through the news media, and foreigners, espeically women would be deliberately avoiding visiting India which will disable the tourism industry. Great police force? When the Government has the guts to punish these animals in the public? It is totally frustrating to watch, how women are mistreated in the society?

Every time it is the Police who are not there for the public in distress.
It is high time Home ministry strictly advises the Police Dept, that they are there to serve the public and if they fail to do so suitable action will be taken (not just suspension - dismissal from their job and criminal charges against them)
Every one is complaining abt them for not doing their duty most of the time.
If Police do their duty diligently without bowing to pressure, law and order situation in the State\Country will improve dramatically. Only their dedication to their job is the criteria.
The Center\State Govts. should look positively towards remuneration of Police which may be the main cause for their in-efficiency.
They have eyes\ears\knowledge to see politicians, their own Bosses getting richer and richer and their situation worsening. This has affected them and want to make money for themselves too.

This is really sad. First of all these policemen will act only when one of their near and dear one is the victim. I would suggest that we public should have the right to decide whether these people should be paid from our Tax, I would say dot pay a single Paise from the tax which I pay, it can be used for some better purpose. Unless and untll these rapists are hanged in public they will not stop their act. Now one Bozo will reply 'Jawar if we start hanging like that there will be no one left in India" . I dont know about him but I can surely tell you, all that the people I know, my friends, my relatives will all be living. I wrote this because some one had commented before about hanging, may be he was a culprit.

In practical Sheila Dixit position not better than Mayor of city. New Delhi City is upgraded to State. But its Police Force not coming under Delhi state.
Its coming under Central Govt. Home Minister. Any major decision on city development decided by Central Govt.

Now all of you decide who is responsible of Law & order in New Delhi...

Another things there is no difference between Delhi Police and UP Police.....bcoz Majority staff recruited from UP/Bihar.....
