Second rape accused held in Bihar: Delhi Police chief

New Delhi, Apr 22 (IANS): Police have arrested a second man for the brutal rape of a five-year-old Delhi girl and he is being brought to the capital from Bihar, Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said Monday.

He said the 19-year-old illiterate man was caught at his uncle's house in Bihar.

Neeraj Kumar also vowed to make an example of the three police officers suspended for improper conduct following the April 15 rape at Gandhi Nagar area in east Delhi.

An assistant commissioner of police was proceeded against after being caught on camera slapping a young woman protesting the rape that has shocked the country.

Two other officers attached to the Gandhi Nagar police station were suspended for not immediately investigating the missing five-year-old who was later found in a nearby flat in a traumatic state.

Neeraj Kumar said police were also probing allegations that two policemen offered bribes to the rape victim's father asking him not to go public with the case.

As the father was unable to leave the hospital where his daughter was warded, he said, the staff of the station would be taken to him so he could identify those who offered him the bribe of Rs.2,000.

"We hope to complete this within the next 72 hours... We will take exemplary action. We will make an example of these officers, who have not acted in the manner expected of them," he said.
