Jogi seeks Rs.1 crore for robotic legs


Raipur, Apr 23 (IANS): Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi has asked the state's BJP government to provide him Rs.1 crore for obtaining robotic legs, family sources said Monday.

During the 2004 general elections, Jogi met with a road accident in which both his legs were paralysed.

Jogi is hoping to get rid of his wheelchair and become perhaps the first person in India to walk with the help of robotic legs.

According to family sources, at the time of the accident Chief Minister Raman Singh had offered bear the expenses of the treatment but Jogi had refused to accept this.

The robotic legs will cost Rs.90 lakh and expenses on doctors will also run into severl lakhs. The former chief minister has thus asked the state government to give him Rs.1 crore towards medical process, the ffamily sources said.

A trial of the robotic legs was carried out on Jogi at his residence on Monday. Jogi reportedly walked for 10-15 minutes in the presence of experts who have come from New Zealand.
