Sonia dismisses demands for resignation of PM

New Delhi, Apr 24 (PTI): Unfazed by the Opposition attack, Congress President Sonia Gandhi Tuesday dismissed the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the coalgate issue.

"Let them ask" was the terse response of Gandhi when approached by reporters on the issue after a meeting of the Congress Core Group headed by her.

The meeting of the Core Group was convened immediately after both Houses were adjourned over the issue for half an hour in the morning.

The meeting, which was also attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath discussed the strategy ahead in wake of the Opposition reviving its attack on the government on the coalgate issue and bringing the Prime Minister as well under the target.

Kamal Nath alleged that the BJP was using "diversionary politics by trying to draw the attention away from core issue."

"In the last nine years, the BJP has demanded the Prime Minister's resignation many many times. And there is no basis to this. The BJP is using diversionary politics by trying to draw the attention away from core issue," Nath said.

Keeping up the heat on the government, BJP today demanded resignation of Prime Minister on the coalgate issue.

Gandhi had yesterday also given an indication of the aggression in Congress' response to the Opposition's charges.

In the Lok Sabha today, soon after Speaker Meira Kumar made a reference to Panchayati Raj Day, opposition members rushed to the Well raising slogans and waving placards on various issues.

BJP members rushed to the Well demanding resignation of the Prime Minister over the issue of coal block allocations. Shouting slogans, they also demanded dismissal of Law Minister Ashwani Kumar who is alleged to have vetted the CBI report to the Supreme Court.

Till now history has shown that Sonia has never agreed to any of the demands from the opposition however genuine it is, when it comes to dealing with her corrupt ministers or her family members. She is clearly showing the dictatorial traits as her mother in law's. If the congress wins this time again, they will auction our country to the highest bidder and settle down in Italy. They have absolutely no concern for any of our country men for the simple reason that they dont belong here and they have got all the wealth without any struggle. They dont know the pain of the common man, even if they know they dont have the drive to do anything for them. so we can never expect anything from this high and mighty family who are totally disconnected from the aam aadmi.

    Ms. shubhada,

Let us keep two parties against each other (1) Congress (2) BJP. Now, Late PM Indira Gandhi had two DIL, both widows. One is heading party (1). Can you imagine the other heading party (2) ?

Here is the riddle. Why, a daughter-in-law came from a different country could be had of a party that is supported by half of the country but one that is from our own country is not even heard of though she is a MP in party (2) ?

Let me tell you its the party and its principles. Sonia Gandhi could have been PM nine years ago. At that time, a leader of party (2) threatened to shave her head off, eat roasted grams for food, sleep on uncovered floor if Sonia becomes the PM. Now, see the party - it fights within to find a leader but Congress has so many leaders. One of its ace leader even became the President.

Therefore, please leave behind your jealousy and fear, find a competent leader to counter Sonia. Adopt principles of unity and equality, then, we don't have to be intimidated that our country will be sold to Italy !
