Mangalore, Apr 24: "The previous government sanctioned only Rs 35 crore for Minority Welfare Department but BJP government in 2008-09 released Rs 128.98 crore, Rs 173.73 crore in 2009-10, Rs 256 crore in 2010-11, Rs 334.99 crore  in 2011-12, Rs 407 crore in 2012-13," said  N B Aboobakar, immediate ex-president, Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation, addressing the press meet held at the district BJP office in the city.          

"In five years our party has released a total of Rs 1313.96 crore. About 14 lac people benefited from different projects. Minorities like Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Parsis were provided economical betterment, social justice, and brought to the main stream of civilization. The BJP through the Minority Development Corporation and Christian Welfare Parishat, from the past five years has sanctioned Rs 327.94 crore for 1,89,904 beneficiaries for different projects and this shows that our government is pro-people,” he added.

He also said, “From the past five years nearly 9 lac students received Rs 360 crore as scholarship along with co-operation of the central government, Rs 67.45 crore fund was sanctioned to 320 institutions to build wedding or community halls. A total of Rs 102 crore in aid was provided to build minorities’ hostel for the students of pre-metric and post-metric education and construct an additional storey. Nearly Rs 35 crore was spent on skill development project in which 39,000 people were benefited, Rs 4 crore was sanctioned for competitive exams and higher education in foreign countries for minorities. An amount of Rs 33,000 crore was released for renovation of ‘Masjid’, cemetry, and ‘Dargah’. An amount of Rs 6.5 crore was sanctioned for religious pilgrimage sites like Murugulla Mulladargah, Shivana Samudradargah, Tawakal Mastan Dargah, Sri Rangapatana Tippu Sulthan Grave, Kambal Gore Durgah, Haidar Ali Durgah of Boodhi Kotte village, and basic facilities to Ullal Dargah. In addition,  Rs 2.5 crore was sanctioned for treatment of Muslim women suffering diseases like cancer, heart disease, kidney failure, and brain tumor, with 700 people benefiting from this project. Those who are serving in state Masjids (Wakf registered institution) like ‘Pesh Imam’, ‘Hafiz’, ‘Nazir’, and ‘Mouzens’ were given Rs 3,100, Rs 2,950, Rs 2,800, and Rs 2,500 each. For this project, Rs 5 crore was sanctioned in 2010-11 and 2012-13 budget and16,000 Maulanas benefited from this. Several other projects have also been sanctioned for betterment of minorities.”

Aboobakar also said that the BJP provided equal social justice even for the minority people. He also alleged that Abbu Salim, member of Sachar committee, says that the central government is not properly implementing the sanctioned funds and hence this time all people should support BJP once again to rule the state.

On this occasion, Monappa Bhandary also welcomed several minority activists to the BJP party.

Rahim Uchilla, Jamal, Hanif Kotepura, Kodi Monu Ullal, and Moideen were also present.
