New Delhi, Apr 27 (IANS): Electronics major Samsung Friday launched its new flagship smartphone Galaxy S4 priced at Rs.41,500. It will go on sale from Saturday.
The latest version of Samsung's Galaxy series will compete with the likes of Apple iPhone5, HTC One and Blackberry Z10, all priced above Rs.40,000.
The hand held device will be available for sale to Indian customers from Saturday in four cities-- Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore-- and online.
"Apart from the initial four cities, the smartphone will be available across the country soon. Customers can expect exciting gifts and offers with the phones at the launch tomorrow," Vineet Taneja, country head, mobile business, said at the launch.
The new model is quipped with a five-inch full HD (high definition) AMOLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode) display with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080, powered by a 1.6 GHz (gigahertz) quad-core processor and 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with two GB (gigabyte) RAM (read only memory) for fast computing.
Galaxy S4 is operating on Android's 'Jelly Bean' system with an internal memory of 16 GB (gigabyte), extendable up to 64 GB.
The phones' power pack consists of a 2,600 mAH (Milliamp Hour) battery. The Galaxy S4 also packs more features than its predecessor and comes with nine sensors like accelerometer, RGB light, geomagnetic, proximity, gyro, barometer, temperature and humidity reader and gesture recogniser.
According to the company, these sensors enable the phone to recognise users' gestures, the direction where they are looking at the screen, movement of their fingers, wrist to scrolls the pages up or down.
The new features of the phone includes "Smart Pause" function which enables users to control the screen by where they look. The "Air view" and""Air Gestur"" features give the ability to preview and browse emails, messages and photos without even touching the screen.
The camera system uses a "dual camera" function, which has a 13 megapixel rear camera and a two megapixel front camera and is capable of taking pictures from both the cameras simultaneously.
The phone also has the ability to record sounds while clicking a still picture. It also comes with a voice and text translator.
