Bangalore, Apr 27: In a heart-rending incident which occurred at Kyasanahalli within Kottanur police station in the city limits on Friday April 26, two children, who were playing in the premises of a brick-making factory, drowned in the water sump erected there.

Balaji (8), and Suvarna (1), children of Raju from Kyasanahalli were playing in a hollow bricks making unit near their home. There were no elders near them. The locals, who saw two bodies floating in the sump, called up Raju and conveyed to him about the catastrophe. The sump was erected for collecting water for the bricks unit.

Raju, a carpenter by profession, had shifted to Kyasanahalli a few days back, after his wife deserted him due to some misunderstanding. Raju was in depression after the departure of his wife, as he had to balance between work and looking after children.

Raju had left for work when his children played outside his home. The children drowned after slipping into the sump. The policemen said that the sump, erected for meeting the water needs of the unit, is five feet deep.

A case was registered against Venkatesh, owner of the bricks unit, in this connection at Kottanur police station.
