Mangalore: Generous drizzle brings some respite

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 29: The city and several parts of coastal Karnataka received rain in the early hours of Monday April 28 coupled with occasional lightning and thunder. Even after the drizzle subsided, climate continues to be cloudy.

Tain was also experienced in Beltangady, Kadaba and nearby places on Sunday evening. After a tree got uprooted near Mundaje, seven electric polces and another tree, fell to the ground. This in turn, affected traffic on Ujire-Charmadi road.

While the rain has provided a little respite from heat, it has also raised concerns for some class of people. In view of the coming assembly election, several meetings have been scheduled and leaders of state, local, and national stature, plan to address them. The candidates and political parties are praying that rain does not play spoilsport with their programmes.

For a section of Hindus who follow lunar calendar, auspicious period for conducting marriage and other function has just begun, and scores of auspicious and religious functions are planned to be held every day, so as to hold them before the rainy season begins. The organizers of these functions too are nervous about the possibility of rains denting their celebrations.

Various other parts of the state like Belgaum and Gulbarga, also received rains. The meteorological department has predicted rains in the coast and some places in southern hinterland during the next 24 hours.
