Mangalore, Apr 29: “The Brahmin community has not been able to wield political clout, nor get proper representation in the field of politics. As such, students of the community should focus on joining the government as IAS and IPS officers. They should contribute to the progress of Brahmin community once they reach positions of power,” advised Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji of Subrahmanya Mutt. He also wanted Brahmin organizations to set up IAS, IPS training facility for poor students from the community in Mangalore.

He was delivering the benedictory address at the decennial celebrations of ‘Vipra Samagama Vedike’ organized at Sharada Vidyalaya in the city on Sunday April 28.

“Because of the basic traits of Brahmins like patience, hesitation, and soft behavior, the community is being treated lightly by others. Therefore, splinter factions within the community should overcome their differences and unite to win back their honour. While others readily accept help from Brahmins, no one responds by supporting them. Hence, the Brahmins should utilize their knowledge for the development of their community too,” he urged, and promised to extend financial support for projects backed by community-centric ideals from his Mutt.

The Swamii also wanted the entire Brahmin community to get identified as a vote bank, so that the candidates will appreciate the fact that they need the votes of this community for securing a win.

The celebrations were inaugurated by Venkataramana Asranna, chief priest of Kateel Goddess Durgaparameshwari Temple. Karnataka Bank managing director, P Jayaram Bhat, participated as guest. M B Puranik, head of Sharada group of educational institutions, presided.

President of the Vedike, Katyayini Rao, welcomed. Secretary, Veena Garde, presented the report. Treasurer, Ramesh Acharya, compered the programme. On this occasion, a dance drama, ‘Punyakoti’, was presented by the members of Bharatanjali dance group, Kottara.
