Dhoni sued for 'defaming' Hindu god

Bangalore, May 7 (IANS): A local court Monday registered a defamation case against Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for allegedly denigrating a Hindu god (Vishnu) and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Sixth additional chief metropolitan magistrate Choori Khan registered the case under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on a petition filed by Jayakumar Hiremath, a city-based social activist.

"By posing as Lord Vishnu for an advertisement in a business magazine, holding many things, Dhoni has denigrated the Hindu god and hurt our religious feelings," Hiremath alleged in the petition.

Khan posted the case to May 12 for recording Hiremath's statement after taking cognisance of the alleged offence.

If People like Muthalik truly loves religion, first they should try to instill faith and love in Hindus for their religion and respect for their Gods. Like one gentleman yesterday commented on TV9, Hindu God's are not defamed by other religions, but by Hindus themselves. Those groups and leaders who mix religion with Politics are true enemies of religion and country. By instigating youths to harm/hate other religion they are doing more harm to their own religion than protecting it. I really condemn Dhoni's act by which he has hurt sentiments of Hindus for money.

Yesterday I watched debate on this issue on TV9. All the participants were really gentlemen who were discussing the issue without hurting sentiments of minority. TV9 should invite similar gentlemen for their discussions. Last time I watched a debate where Mr. Mutalik was present, whose main agenda was to hurt the sentiments of minority. By his discussion it was evident that neither he has respect for religion & God nor for the country. He was trying to hurt the sentiments of minority and spilling venom to divide children of India. Media should keep away such contract trouble makers. Though I am non-Hindu, this type of incidents hurting sentiments of Hindus or people of any other religion is wrong. Vande mataram.

    Bilal Riyadh,
Can you define what do you mean by a "True Hindu".
You may be aware about Danish cartoon picture episode after this lot of protests, imposition of ban on Danish products in Gulf region & Fatwas in India/Pak were issued. Why people have made such noise on picture, just it would have been ignored.

Where are we heading? Everything is being opposed by one or the other person for one or the other reason in our country. There isn't anything that goes unopposed. I was just going through the panel discussion about this issue on TV 9 last night and was shocked to listen to the comments and views of so called 'intelligent panellists'. They were just venting venom and even the working president of Sri Rama Sene Andolana Swami was asked about his views too over the phone. Over the years we have heard from majority of our Hindu breathren that Rama Sene, Banjrang Dal etc aren't official bodies of Hinduism. Then why their leader should be invited for such discussion and how come his personal views become the views of all the faithful? And the advocate of Hiremath was speaking as if he is not part of this society and the points he mentioned seemed so childish and immature. These are the same guys who walk into 'Raghavendra Bar', 'Venkateshwara Bar', Anjaneya Wine Shop and come out dazed. They are not bothered about using deities names to bars, pubs and wine shops. What is meant of 'hurting religious feelings of community? Are the feelings of the entire community one and the same? Do these persons represent the community they or have they been appointed by anyone to take cudgels? How come an individual's point of view is presented as the point of view of entire community, religion or society? Today the world is becoming small and small but the gap between humans, gap between religions, the gap between communities etc is becoming wider and wider perhaps reaching to un-bridgeable proportions. Religion is meant for the well-being of individuals and should strictly be personal in nature. The Holy Books of the religions should not be the reference point for a country and its law & order but the Constitutions of the country should be the point of reference. Wherever religion takes precedence over the Constitution only confusion, destruction, injustice and enmity prevails.

    Dear Gladson,
I really appreciate the effort you have taken to present these wonderful and very important views.
Nowadays the focus is so much on 'Corruption' in India that the bigger evil of Society, namely 'Communalism' is being ignored and sometimes conveniently so, for the benefit of vested interests.
Basically humans of all faiths/religions i.e. Hindus,Muslims,Christians,Sikhs,Buddhists,Jews,Zoroastrians,Jains etc.etc. are good natured but it is only the fundamentalist/extremist, communal minded elements within these communities who stir trouble and can spread their poison through a large part of the community if we allow it to go unchecked or dont oppose these communal elements very, very strongly through the law and WITHOUT VIOLENCE !
Humanity must stay united inspite of our different faiths if there is to be peace in our world.
    Keep it up !

Dhoni wanted to have many hands like this Bhagwan to post many world records in his carrier.....He found there single Adidaas shoo..he was searching the other one...Even he was looking for the helmet bat and pads... What is wrong in it ?
    New IPL God...
I think the true Hindu should not get angry...
Even Mahendar Singh Dhoni will be concidered as God just like Tendulkar
Concept of God is not a serious matter in India What we witness.

God is God! No match.. and no one can denigrate God! People paint the pictures of God on the walls & we often see people urinating beside. So, no need to fight for the sake of God I suppose. God should be in one's heart!! Though I strongly oppose degrading God of any faith, be it hindu, muslim, christ, sikh or whatever.
