TV should focus on daily life, not criminals: Medvedev

Moscow, May 7 (IANS/RIA Novosti): TV channels in Russia should focus their attention on daily social and lifestyle issues, not on criminal reports as they currently do, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"Of course, I'm not completely satisfied with what is shown (on TV). I agree that TV does not include a whole range of issues of public interest," the premier said at a meeting with World War II veterans.

Medvedev said television should "show life as it is".

"There's more to life than just gangster wars, thank God," he said.

"But they (TV crews) often pay excessive attention to this issue in order to attract more viewers."
