Sibal gets additional charge of Law, Joshi Rail

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) : Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal was today given additional charge of Law Ministry while Road and Transport Minister C P Joshi the Railways portfolio following the resignation of Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal last night.

A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique made these announcements after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recommended these changes to President Pranab Mukherjee, who accepted the resignations of Kumar and Bansal.

Railway Minister Bansal resigned yesterday following the arrest of his nephew Vijay Singla last week for allegedly accepting Rs.90 lakh for fixing promotion in Railway Board while Kumar quit in the wake of a raging controversy over his vetting the CBI probe report in the coal block allocations scam.

Sibal, an eminent lawyer himself, will get an opportunity to handle the Law ministry for the first time, while Joshi has held the Railway portfolio as temporary charge last year after the exit of Trinamool Congress nominee Mukul Roy.

"The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation from the following members of the Council of Ministers with immediate effect: Pawan Kumar Bansal and Ashwani Kumar.

"Further, as advised by the Prime Minister of India, the President has directed that the additional charge of the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Law and Justice shall be given to Dr C P Joshi and Shri Kapil Sibla respectively," the communique said.

The changes in the portfolios notwithstanding, there is speculation that there could be a reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers soon to fill up some vacancies caused by the DMK's exit from the government and the need to place new nominees in the departments being held as additional charge.

Good! UPA sacked corrupt like they did in the past to Kalmadi, and coalition partner Raja.

It is very important for a government to be accountable to its people curb the price rise, and run people friendly Govt.

UPA, Central Govt. should also appoint a Lokpal and set an example to Gujarat C.M. Modi to follow.

What a pathetic condition of UPA-2 Government! Can’t they find better person than Sibal? I am sure at least 25% Leaders of Congress are still non-corrupt. Can’t they choose any one of them? But the problem is with Supreme Leaders of Congress. They need more and more hardcore Senior Leaders to lead in the front even though they are losing at the back. There are some Senior Leaders in Congress who lost faith by general public due to their twisted tongue and Sibal is one of them for sure

Just one year back Sibal was thinking of blocking facebook comments during Lokpal Lava. He should think that CONG is gaining in the election not for corruption tolerance by the people, but its due to lack of stable party by any other parties than CONG. Every public expecting the arrest of ministers who ever involved in the scandals.

Oh no why Zero Loss Law minister?
May be having better english knowledge than Ashwin!
Can any one answer me, why PMO secretary will call CBI with status report and make changes on its own without the knowledge of PM?
P M was aware of everything! If he was not aware then he is not competant for the post.

oops! What happened all of a sudden? All along the way, these congress ministers were defending Bansal and passing the buck on his nephew (de facto Railway Minister). They were defending because they were certain that they can ask CBI with the help of law minister/PMO/Railways Secretaries to amend the charge reports. Since the SC (some good sense prevailed on them) order was there, they (Congress) gave up and sacked Bansal. Next is Ashwini Kr and them the quite Maun Mohan. Congress Ministers and PM are suffering from Pakistan syndrome where they deny everything at first even though the proofs are there and then accept.
    Next Ashwin to follow
Now start saying blah blah that sonia acted, no place for corrupt etc etc. Fact is congress never wanted to take action against Bansal and Ashwin as it will directly lead to PM's door step.

Yes, public memory is short.. What about the time spent in jail by Kalmadi, Raja, and other ministers ? Congress at least takes action, following the legal route unlike BJP who tried to replace Santosh Hegde for stating the facts!

Present arrangement of giving "Additional" Charge of Railway to Joshi is only a stop-gap arrangement for only one week.
Next week there will be full cabinet reshuffle when Karge may get Railways.
