Bantwal: Pulincha Award conferred on Yakshagana artiste Arva Koragappa Shetty

Bantwal, May 15: Veteran Yakshagana artiste Arva Koragappa Shetty was awarded the first ever ‘Pulincha Award’ conferred by Pulincha Seva Prathistana at Chende Shree Karluti Temple, Balthila Village, in Bantwal Taluk on Sunday May 12.
After inaugurating the event, Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, convener, Kalladka Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, said, “Yakshagana enthusiastically teaches the essence of Veda, Puranas, and Upanishads to the common man. Hence, Yakshagana plays an active role in bringing righteousness and culture closer to the people”.
In a memorable address, Kumble Sundar Rao said, “Pulincha Ramayya Shetty grew up in the land of ‘Chende’ by dancing to the beats of the Chende, and became a great talent of the Yakshagana world.”
Umanath Kotian, former Tulu Sahitya Academy president, conferred the award. BJP Dakshina Kannada district president Padmanabha Kotary presided. Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli former member, Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy, presented the congratulatory address, Rajesh Naik Ullipady Guthu was the chief guest at the programme.
Shridhar Shetty Pulincha, president, Pulincha Seva Prathistana, administrative trustee of Chende Shree Karluti Temple welcomed. Assistant Professor of St Aloysius College Prathima Shridhar Shetty thanked, Sathish Shetty read the note on certificate, and Devdas Shetty compered.
