Mangalore, May 15: Two unidentified persons attacked Sri Vijayagiri Maharaj (56), who belongs to Srirama Giri Maharaj Kuteer in Badrinath Kaikamba in Uttaranchal on Monday May 13 night.
He was hit at the service bus stand at Nehru Maidan here. The assaulters reportedly took to their heels thereafter.
The Swamiji was treated at the government Wenlock Hospital in the city as an out-patient for his injuries.
The religious leader said the assaulters approached him at around 11.45 pm at the bus stand, and sought his cell phone. When he questioned the purpose of wanting his phone, one of the accused hit him on his cheeks. The two then tried to forcibly snatch his cell phone, the Swamiji said.
He revealed that he planned to travel to Dharmasthala, and was sitting at the bus stand, as he had arrived there late and hence did not get the bus. It is however, suspected that the assailants were employees working in some bus.
