Mangalore: Konkani Sahitya Academy announces annual awards

Mangalore, May 18: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will confer its annual Honorary Awards, Book Awards, and Yuva Puraskar for the year 2012-13 on Saturday May 25 at 5 pm in Dr Rajendraprasad Convention Hall, Gibs High School, Kumta.
The Honorary Awards will be presented to Paul Moras (Konkani language and literature), who has served Konkani language through various research works, Krishna Bhavani Shankar Bhat (Konkani art), and Argodu K Govindaraya Shenoy (Konkani folk).
The Book Awards will be conferred on Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto for the research book ‘Karavali Karnatakanthlya Konkani Catholikancho Ithihas’ (The History of Konkani Catholics in Coastal Karnataka), Tara Laveena Fernandes for the short story collection ‘Daskath Ani Her Katha’, and Aruna Rao Kundaje for Konkani poetry collection `Sakshatkar'.

The Yuva Puraskar-2012 (youth awards) will go to Ankush N Nayak (music), Vianni Antony D'Cunha (sports and games), chess player who achieved an International FIDE rank of 2245, Ramakrishna Nayak V (painting), Narayan Bhagvan Raikar, Ankola, who secured 84% in 10th standard despite having lost his vision at the age of 5 and achieved distinction in senior and junior grade exam in the field of Carnatic music, tabla, harmonium and singing .
Addressing a press meet at Konkani Mantov at Konkani Sahitya Academy, here on Saturday May 18, Kasargod Chinna, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said Sharadha Mohan Shetty, MLA, Kumta will inaugurate the programme.
K R Ramakrishna, commissioner of Kannada and culture department, Govt of Karnataka will confer the Honorary Awards and Ananth Kumar Hegde, MP, will confer the Book Awards. Muralidhar Prabhu will present Yuva Puraskar, while Kasargod Chinna will preside.
Academy registrar Devdas Pai, members Rajaram Nayak and Ashok Shet were present.
