Mangalore, May 19: An open well in a plantation at Derebail-Konchady here was the centre of all attention on Sunday May 19.
A sambar, which had been wandering in the area for quite sometime, was found fallen in the well.
The open well is located in a plantation belonging to Dr U Kumarswamy.
The incident came to light when some people at the plantation happened to peep into the well and found that the colour of the water seemed to have been contaminated. On a closer look, they realized that an animal had fallen in.
The fire personnel were called immediately, and so also the police and officials from Pilikula Nisargadhama.
As the news spread, locals gathered at the spot, and together with their help, the fire personnel and Pilikula officials fished out the sambar.
The sambar which was alive but weak, was checked and treated by a vet and shifted to Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Speaking to mediapersons, Dr U Kumarswamy said, "The sambar has been wandering in the plantation for the past four years, but never caused any trouble or come across any harm. I suspect that the sambar might have fallen into the well two days ago."
