Mangalore, Dec 2: Suraj (21), a resident of KHB Colony, Kavoor, hardly knew that his journey back home after the new year party would be his last journey.  A bus conductor by profession, he had all the reasons on earth to celebrate the New Year - 2006, after a successful 2005.  But he might have never imagined that he would never see the bright sunbeams of the New Year since something else was in store for him.

Suraj who was pillion-riding on a bike along with one of his friends at 2.30 am on Sunday January 1, met with an accident and died on the spot.  His friend Praveen was riding the bike. As a dog crossed the road and he tried to avoid hitting it, he lost control over the vehicle and as a result the bike rammed against an electric pole near Bondel Church. 

Suraj, who fell off the bike, received serious injuries in his head and died on the spot.  Bike-rider Praveen too has sustained injuries in the accident.

Suraj was working as conductor in Route No. 19 bus belonging to Supreme Transport Company.  Kavoor police have booked a case in this regard.
