China to advance novel partnership with Africa

Beijing, May 28 (IANS): China is ready to work with Africa to advance a new type of strategic partnership between the two sides, the foreign ministry said Monday.

The ministry's spokesperson was asked during a press briefing to comment on the African Union (AU) summit and China's outlook of future China-Africa ties, reported Xinhua.

"China has attached great importance to developing relations with Africa," said spokesperson Hong Lei, citing President Xi Jinping's choice to visit Africa during his first foreign trip in March.

The AU Saturday marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Organisation for African Unity (OAU), which is now the AU, with a variety of activities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the seat of its headquarters.

China's vice premier Wang Yang, as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, was invited to the AU's Golden Jubilee celebration.
