Udupi, Jan 3: The year 2006 has started on a disastrous note in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi with fatal accidents.  Right from 2 am on January 1 to Monday January 2 evening 4 persons have been killed in separate road accidents.  Now adding to this list is the accident that took place here near Karavali Junction on Monday morning, which claimed the life of one person and injured 3 others.

One person was killed and three more were injured when a car going towards Kundapur hit the right side railings the small bridge near Karavali Junction here on Monday January 2 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Jimmy (29), a native of Kerala.  Three others Binny (40), Salby (39 and Suresh Prabhu (39) who were in the car have been injured in the accident and are admitted to a private hospital here.  They all were going back to Kundapur after attending a wedding ceremony at Ernaculam in Kerala.

Deceased Jimmy was a contractor in Kundapur.  It is said that Jimmy himself was driving the car and accident might have occurred, as he was feeling drowsy.

The Udupi traffic police have registered a case in this regard.

Late report: Tuesday, Jan 3 - 10-30 am

Late report said that Suresh Prabhu succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
