26 killed, 80 injured in Iraq violence


Baghdad, May 30 (IANS): As many as 26 people were killed and 80 injured due to bombings and clashes in different parts of Iraq Wednesday.

A car bomb struck a wedding party in the neighbourhood of Jihad, southwestern Baghdad, killing at least 16 people and wounding 46, reported Xinhua citing an interior ministry source.

Four people were killed and 16 injured when another car bomb was set off in a market in western Baghdad, the source said.

Elsewhere, in Baqouba, the capital of Diyala province, some 65 km from Baghdad, two roadside bombings in a popular football field killed at least three and wounded 13 people. .

Earlier in the day, a police officer and two policemen, guarding an outpost near the Iraqi-Syrian border, in Iraq' Anbar province were killed in a clash with gunmen, a source said.

On Monday, a wave of deadly car bomb attacks swept Baghdad, killing at least 34 people and wounding some 155.
