Officers to inspect fishing boats

Udupi: Officers of different government departments of Udupi taluk will inspect the fishing boats from Jan 9 to 13.

All the boat owners should bring boats and boat engines along with the required documents to the officers during the office time. The checking point for the Hejmadi villagers will be near Hejmadi Fish Marketing Federation on Jan 9 and 10 .

Boats of Nadsalu and Tenka villages will be checked at Padubidri Fishermen Co-operative society on Jan 12 and 13.

The boat owners of Ermalu Bada, Mulur, Padu, Bada and Uliyaragoli can bring the documents to Subhash Road at Uchchila on Jan 16 and 17.

Kodavoor, Kadekaru, Kediyoor, Kutpady, Udyavara, Mattu, Kote, Katpady, Badanidiyur, Tenka Nidiyur villagers can bring the documents to Sahukar bar near Malpe port on Jan 9, 10, 12 and 13. Boat owners of all the villages under Brhamavar Hobli can bring the neccessary documents to Kodibengre Jatti on Jan 9 and 10.

Ultra Tech cricket tournament starts at Nehru Maidan

Mangalore: The UltraTech under-19 cricket tournament hosted by Karnataka State Cricket Academy (KSCA) , Mangalore zone was inaugurated at Nehru Maidan on Wednesday.

UltraTech Cement regional head D Parthasarathy who inaugurated the tourney congratulated the KSCA, Mangalore zone om organizing several cricket tournaments to encourage the game in the district. He hoped to see some of the youngsters participating in the tourney to figure in the State Ranji team in the near future.

DK Cricket Academy president Srinivas Rai, secretary Mohan Rao, UltraTech plant manager Jayant G Vyas, area sales manager Manjunath and marketing manager Gowdar were present.
 
In the inaugural match was played between SDM PU College and Milagres PU College. SDM own the match scoring 245 runs losing all its wickets in 43 overs wherein Swaroop Raj(85) and Samsuddin (41) were the major contributors. While in reply, Milagres were  allout for 128 in 32 overs.

Two killed in road mishap near Maddadka

Beltangady: Two bike riders died in an accident, which occurred near Maddadka on Tuesday night. The collision between a bike and a jeep killed Sadashiv Nayak (34), the son of Srinivas Nayak of Mulottu in Vodilnala village and Ganesh Prabhu (20) the son of Sridhar Prabhu.

The accident took place on the Bantwal - Kadur state high way between an M80 plying motorcycle from Maddadka and a jeep that was carrying areca towards Bantwal from Shirlal. The bike rider Sadashiv Nayak succumbed to injuries on the head, legs and hands while the pillion rider Ganesh Prabhu was also seriously injured.

Even though there were immediately hospitalised, they died at a private hospital in Mangalore on Wednesday.

Body found on railway track at Kasargod

Kasargod: A dead body of a person about 55 years old  was found on the railway tracks near the Nileshwar railway station, on Wednesday. The police have identified the deceased as K V Kumaran from Chayoth Kaniyady here. He had visited a hospital in Mangalore and had returned to Nileshwar by the Malabar Express. The police suspected that he was run over by a train while attempting to cross the track.
