Fenerbahce hunting for new coach

Ankara, Jun 3 (IANS): Turkish football club Fenerbahce is looking overseas for its new coach after former coach Aykut Kocaman resigned last week.

The club is expected to find a replacement for Kocaman within a week after negotiations with Turkish and foreign coaches, reports Xinhua.

The report said that Fenerbahce was talking with prominent Turkish coaches Ersun Yanal and Mustafa Denizli -- both had coached the Turkish national team in the past. However, the club's managers are believed to support the idea of having a foreign coach, insiders told reporters.

A group of Fenerbahce managers is due to head overseas for discussions with a number of coaches this week. The list of foreign coaches that Fenerbahce is considering interviewing includes Bert van Marwijk and Louis Van Gaal -- both from the Netherlands, and German coaches Felix Magath and Bernd Schuster.

Sources said that unless Fenerbahce manages to reach a quick agreement with a foreign coach, the club is likely to sign Yanalin the coming days.

After a long season of ups and downs for the Istanbul club, Kocaman resigned from his position, May 29.
