New Delhi, Jun 3 (IANS): The family of the girl who died of injuries following an acid attack in Mumbai refused to carry out her last rites here until a CBI probe is ordered.

The family of the 23-year-old woman marched from Narela towards G.T. Road (both in west Delhi) with her coffin, demanding justice. They were stopped by police.

"The last rites have been delayed because we want a confirmation from the government on our demands. We have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, a state honour for our daughter and a job for one of the family members," Amar Singh Rathi, the woman's father, told IANS.

Some unidentified attackers threw acid on Preeti Rathi as she alighted from the New Delhi-Mumbai Garib Rath Express in Mumbai May 2 morning to take up her new job as nurse at the army hospital in this financial capital of India.

She suffered grievous injuries, which included collapse of her right lung and damage to her left lung, oesophagus, windpipe, trachea and other vital organs.

Preeti died of her injuries in a private hospital in Mumbai. Her body was brought to the national capital by a flight early Monday.

"We reached Delhi from Mumbai at 7.45 a.m. today (Monday)," Rathi said.

The family called on Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil Sunday and demanded justice for their daughter.

While extending a compensation of Rs.2 lakh to the family, Patil assured them that the case would be handed over to the CBI.
