Gujarat by-polls: BJP wins both Lok Sabha, all four Assembly seats

Ahmedabad, Jun 5 (PTI / Agencies): In a big victory for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has won all the six seats (two Lok Sabha setas and four Assembly seats) in the by-polls. This includes the Porbander seat which was contested by former Congressman and now BJP leader Vitthal Radadiya.

The Congress has failed the litmus test as all six seats were held by it. Congress had earlier expressed confidence of winning majority of seats even though this by-polls did not enthuse the voters much.

For Porbandar and Banaskantha Lok Sabha seats, 30 and 37 per cent voting was registered respectively. However, for the assembly seats of Limbadi, Morva Hadaf, Dhoraji and Jetpur 62 per cent, 64 per cent, 33 per cent and 45 per cent voting was recorded.

Congress had earlier expressed confidence of winning majority of seats even though this by-polls did not enthuse the voters much.
All eyes were on results of Porbandar Lok Sabha and Jetpur Assembly seats where BJP gave tickets to Vithhal Radadia and his son Jayes, respectively, who had defected from the Congress and joined BJP.

On Limbadi and Morva Hadaf Assembly and Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat, Congress had fielded relatives of candidates who held those seats before the by-polls.
Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Mukesh Gadhvi. In the by-poll Congress fielded his wife Krishna Gadhvi.

At Morva Hadaf, the election was held to fill the vacancy caused by Congress candidate Savita Khant, who died on the day of counting of the assembly elections in December, 2012. For the by-poll, the party had given ticket to her son Bhupendrasinh Khant.
The Limbadi Assembly seat fell vacant after Congress MP Soma Patel, who won the seat, later resigned as MLA. The party has fielded his son Satish against whom BJP has given ticket to former state minister Kiritsinh Rana.

In the state legislative Assembly of 182 members, at present BJP has 115 MLAs, Congress 57, Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) 2, Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) 2 and Independent and JD(U) has one member each member.

A realistic prediction for 2014 elections will depend upon the performance of regional and smaller parties like RJD, JDU, BSP, NCP, SAD,SS, SP, TMC, DMK, AIADMK, BJD and the Left taken together. BJP may not get more that 100 seats and Congress may get around 150 seats. There will be more chances for the Non-Congress and Non-BJP parties to form the next Govt and Congress may give outside support. Anyone dreaming about Modi becoming the PM will be mistaken. We shall wait and see. However, still one more year for the elections of Lok Sabha. Things will change. May be Congress will form the next Govt with help of small parties and the Left. Let us hope for the best!

The recent elections have clearly shown two things: a) Good governance wins regardless of party.. Effect of caste, money, while still an issue, is reducing - a good sign, b) People have the ultimate power by voting.. We should make sure we never miss our vote... People like Yeddyurappa who had great opportunity to shine, totally messed up, and now look where he is?? Same way, I would say the Congress in Center is doomed - MMS has proved to be a terrible captain (maybe a good tailender)...

A few days ago when Congress routed BJP in Karnataka, BJP claimed that these elections cannot be held as warning bell for the forthcoming LS elections. Then how come all of a sudden Modi winning 6 seats in his own backyard become a warning bell to the Centre? Going by Modi's popularity (?) outside Gujarat, he should have won at least 150 of the seats in the Assembly polls. But he crossed the majority-line by a whisker.
Modi's PR team sells him with attractive sops. But the state data shows another picture. Gujarat which claims 'energy surplus' with round-the-clock electricity still has 11 lac houses which have never seen electricity. The recent census also found that there are 16,000 houses in the state that uses solar power as the main source of illuminating their homes. Of this, a majority 13,000 are in the rural Gujarat. Even the figures of fuel used in the kitchen are indeed eye-opening. For a state that claims to be the 'energy' hub of the country, the census data reveals there are only 46 lac homes that either use LPG or PNG as fuel for cooking.
There is still a majority 63 lac homes that either use age-old sources of fuel like crop residue, cow-dung cake or fire wood as fuel for cooking. Surprisingly, about 8 lac of such homes are in the urban areas. Further another 9 lac homes use kerosene to light their stoves 7 lac of which are in urban centres. So how come Modi Gujarat as 'Energy surplus’ state?
Tighten the noose around Modi by strengthening RTI and appointing Lokayukta. I can bet that people would feel that Yeddy-Reddy nexus was much better that Modi-Ambani-Tata cobweb.

It is said, give the devil his due. And I really agree, Narendra Modi is the undisputed king of Gujarat, a fact that is proven over and over again.
Whether he will be able to repeat that success across India is debatable matter. However, anti Modi camp need not fret too much. As of today, India can still hold its head high with regard to the Solid constitution and the strength of its judiciary to uphold it. Another bright spot is Election commission.
In a democracy, even a devil may win an election, but certainly he can not get away with it, as long as these three pillars of democracy are strong.
I am certainly not suggesting Mr.Narendra Modi is a devil, but rather to the anti Modi camp, he is perhaps.
Anti Modi camp should grow up and understand the state of affairs of our country. If Modi becomes PM for 5 years, and sort out or atleast lays Basic plan for the nation to follow, then we all Indians will gain and not loose out.
Basically, I am indeed a CONGI....!
But I sincerely think, its a time for change for the next 5 years at the Centre.

I write this not in support or against Modi, as what i personally experienced in Gujarat, a state that I visited almost after 15 years.
    Since independence
1.Which state in India was able to provide 24 hours uninterrupted electricity to the homes and industry ?
    2. Which state in our country was able to provide a good transport infrasturcture especially roads even to the interior areas to help the locals and industry to be able to travel faster and smoother?
    3. Which state was able to point out what is needed by the state rather sitting and taking what is given to the state by the central government?
    4. Which state has been able to prosper soo much after the riots had destroyed a lot of industry?
    5. Which state has put emphasis on education after being neglected for more than 50 yrs?
There are many more questions, but the answer is all ending with just one state and that is Gujarat. The last question - Under who's leadership did this state progress so such heights - was it Congress or BJP or anyother party - or was it under any one particular leader?
The state got some many CM's in the past what were their achievements?
Yes it is media hype by Hounorable CM Mr. Narendra Modi, my question is if it is media hype then who is helping the state to progress to such levels, Is it that there is a remote control that the central government is holding and pressing the buttons and things are happening.
Why most of the industry want to go to Gujarat, there must be something....

Development happens because of business & industries, who are prime source of income to any nation/state/govt.

Major companies in India are based in Gujrat & answer to your question "Why most of the industry want to go to Gujarat, there must be something.... "...
Comapnies goes to Gujrat, because Modi give permission to them to establish industires there with closed eyes. He mastered art of keeping Gujjus quiet & majority Gujjus neither tell a word against him nor protest industries coming in. They are only interested in, how to fetch money or get benifit from industies there. This is the only reason for some development.

Just see West Bengal, Kerala states... people raising voice against almost all companies/industies. In Gujrat situation is completely opposit.

Most of the Gujjus are rich and money minded people (concerned about self development). Modi is always in favour of rich people. So, definetely they vote him & in return, spend money on Modi/BJP to win elections.

Congress must see if there is any VAASTU-DOSHA in the assembly building. A Karnataka congi has already broken down the Vidhana Sowdha wall.

Useless fellow. If he can't perform, he should sit at home. What rights he has, to damage SHAKTHI-KENDRA of Karnataka???

Not Mr.Modi, even if God Brahma had come to Karnataka, people would not have voted for BJP ! I don't know whether you followed news channels properly or not. Mr.Modi cancelled his visit to Karnatka in the beginning, then he was forced by RSS,BJP leaders to come to Karnataka. He came and conqured Mangaloreans and Bangloreans(pls check video in google),as expected BJP lost..It is a proof that people don't go for corrupt people. So in Lok Sabha election,ATM CARD,2g,3g,Adarsh scam everything will be washed out by TSUNAMI MODI... Dear Jossey..sometimes you have to appreciate your enemy and learn too..
