BJP crisis ends: Advani withdraws resignation at behest of RSS

New Delhi, Jun 11 (PTI): BJP today reached a truce with sulking patriarch L K Advani who agreed not to press for his resignation from key party posts after RSS intervened to end the two-day crisis triggered by his opposition to Narendra Modi's elevation.

"Today afternoon, RSS sarsanghchalak (chief) Shri Mohan Bhagwat spoke to Shri Advani and asked him to respect BJP Parliamentary Board decision and continue to guide the party in national interest.

"Shri Advani has decided to accept Shri Bhagwat's advice," said a statement read out by party President Rajnath after meeting Advani in the company of other leaders.

Flanked by leaders including Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari, Singh made the announcement at Advani's residence but the party veteran was conspicuous by his absence.

Asked why Advani was not present, Singh said, "I told him that this is my press conference and it will not look nice that you sit and hear me."

In a bid to mollify Advani, Singh said he had assured him that all his "concerns" regarding functioning of the party, which he had cited as a reason for quitting the party posts, would be "properly addressed".

"The President will discuss the modalities of addressing these concerns with Shri Advani," Singh said without elaborating.

Earlier in the day, the party chief made it clear that there will be no going back on the decision to appoint Modi as Campaign Committee chief, a major cause for Advani's resignation.

The denouement to the two-day political drama came after hectic parleys and persuasion by a number of leaders who met Advani and impressed on him the need to end the crisis triggered by his resignation.

Modi, whose elevation was the bone of contention, immediately welcomed Advani's decision.

"I had said yesterday that Advaniji will not disappoint lakhs of workers. Today, I wholeheartedly welcome his decision," he tweeted.

Rajnath Singh recalled that the BJP Parliamentary Board had last night decided not to accept Advani's resignation from the National Executive, Parliamentary Board and the Election Committee and requested him to continue to be a member of these bodies.

Singh, who appointed Modi as campaign committee chairman two days back triggering Advani's resignation, earlier ruled out a rethink on that decision.

"Who is talking about changing the decision?... Where am I changing my decision," he told reporters in Banswada in Rajasthan when asked whether he would remain "firm" on his decision or change it in view of Advani's resignation.

To a question on Advani, he said, "he has been our guide, is our guide and will remain our guide."

Before the resolution of the issue, a host of leaders like M M Joshi, Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, Gopinath Munde, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Kalraj Mishra and Gopinath Munde flocked to Advani's residence to persuade him to reconsider his decision, saying his "guidance" was required by the party.

Amidst these efforts, Advani got backing from Jaswant Singh who said a solution should be found to the questions raised the veteran leader soon in the interest of the party as well as the nation.

Jaswant Singh, considered close of Advani, also expressed hope that a solution will be found when asked whether Advani will reconsider his decision to quit.

"A solution should be found soon to the questions raised by Advani ji. This is in the interest of the party. This is in the interest of the nation," Singh said after meeting Advani in Delhi.

Advani has proved that is the strongest link of the chain BJP. It is not because entire bjp came under him for apologising but it is because of creating a drama and gaining maximum attention to the party as a whole. The conclusion is Bjp got good exposure and with this also went one step ahead and d building of worlds tallest statue of sardar vallabai patel without wasting any time. Good Bjp marketing strategy. Keep it Up Mr Advani.

Yes,BJP crisis ends but at what cost.Mr.Advani has exposed the party completely to the public in his letter of resignation which cannot be denied by the party as well as by Mr.Advani now.Over and above this, a non political organisation,RSS has joined and the main party in persuing to withdraw the resignation by Mr.Advani which shows RSS is political and A team of BJP.This requires clearifiaction and hope the recent patch up is durable without creating any future complications.Thanq. .

Your comments have no relevance in whatever, sense you have commented the same. Being an Indian working overseas does not snatch our right to support party of his/her choice. Some countries have given the privilege to the citizen of the country to vote through their Embassy.
Freedom of speech & freedom of choice is always welcome in democratic country.
Furthermore, Indians working abroad help Indian economy in a particular way. We do not keep money in Swiss Bank. Our saving is saved in Indian Banks.
Given a chance go abroad, you being a supporter of BJP will not look back to make use of the opportunity. (but you would not stop supporting BJP)

Hi Flavian, did you note the comment from Shaan in response to Krishna's comments? True isn't it? See places out side India and I am sure one's eyes will 'open'. Secondly, I have observed people working abroad (especially in the middle east) have more patriotic feelings than some of us native Indians who have not stepped out of country. No offence meant for those who were not able to travel abroad.

If it works RSS will project true face. Advani's Rath yatra brought blood but not vote, Modi's narmeda brought blood and vote in Gujrat, so try the same in all India level. Charity is a personal thing. The persons you are talking about maybe charitable but maybe not talking about it. So its difficult to judge who is and who is not charitable. Also I assume from your name you must be a Christian like me then you must be knowing one of the things what the Bible says about Charity which in simple words is "When you give to the needy, your left hand must not know what your right hand is doing" implying one needs to keep a low profile and/or one should not brag/boast about being charitable.
I know your comments were made with very noble intentions and I really mean no offence to you with my comments so please take this sportingly in good spirit. May you be blessed.

A man who supported Mody during muslim killing.?
A man absconding himself from the utive meeting in goa with a reason being ill.? That man is perfectly alright and fit. A man operating with the remote control of RSS.? A man who keeps on yelling 'Hindutwa' 'Namo' & 'Om' and call himself a 'Secular'.? He is all confused and frustrated because everybody take the names of Mody,Rahul,Mounamohana,Shusma, for PM's post. NOBODY has ever uttered his name.!!
His ambition before R.I.P is to become PM of India. That's all.

This is just to ensure, no one becomes PM, without his approval. Even if Modi heads poll campaign for BJP, it is Advani who will decide next PM (if NDA comes to power, which is big question mark).

We are thankful for the all the works he has done for the party. We wish him good old age life.
    -
If Advani's ideologies are not accepted by people then why BJP & RSS went to beg his pardon to withdraw his resignation? Take it back or keep it aside - the whole world could understand the selfish desires of BJP's stalwarts. Shame on Feku Modi and shame on LKA and his supporters.

Exactly....and today he (Mr Poojary) speaks some kind of 'wisdom' saying that "in a democratic party, there are differences of opinion....we welcome Advani's decision....". Within a day Adavni's ideology seems to have been accepted......

Sorry Sunil, what you are seeing in the BJP is utter 'chaos' and certainly not 'democracy' as some BJP supporters are trying to describing it. Advani has washed BJP's dirty linen in public by exposing the factionalism in the party. This is not democracy even by a long shot.

(B)REAKING (J)ANATHA (P)ARTY under the control of divisive RSS of late came to know that with out LKA there may be no chance reaching 200 seats!Allies and BJP stalwarts in fact rallied with LKA which might pave the way to change RSS detection.

It is not the first time RSS sidelining LKA....On the issue of Jinnah, RSS being embarrassed with the comments of LKA, decided to dump him earlier .LKA had chance of becoming President of the party once again but that opportunity was thwarted by RSS !!!Therefore,if it was a patch up or I can say a temporary ceasefire, the crossfire will continue further. The veteran with advanced age 85 years not going to loose much instead RSS would certainly will!Anyhow,PM seat again kept open and Modi might dumped later if BJP able to cross magic number of 200MPS? SOME ARE, HOW BROKEN GLASS COULD NOT BE AS BEFORE......

A big set back to Srimaan Yeddy. He was dreaming to either join or alliance with BJP. Now, all his plan collapsed!

And by doing this drama, ad - vani became very cheap! These tricks and black mailing he might learned from Yeddi. Now, he is cheaper than Yeddi.

Yes., Dinesh used to dream BJP will win Karnataka and particularly in DK-UDUPI!!!I told him that Ish will loose deposit but in fact, dreamed of BJP in driver seat!Interestingly, his native constituency, KUNDAPURA, BJP lost deposit!!!Naturally, after all he is also human being and could not withhold insult, hence gone underground for 15 days!!!In the process, he used tell us that BJP is cadre based blah blah blah...But what happened? Therefore, there is no weight in Dinesh's dream but however,MODI CAN POLARIZE VOTE IN FAVOR OF BJP LIKE WISE,HE MAY BE THE REASON FOR POLARIZING SECULAR VOTES TOWARDS NON BJP.

Ismailji, winning and loosing are part of democracy. Recall INC got 189 seats in 1989 but could not get even opposition position in 1994. So bjp supporters are accepting both in equal mind. Definitely bjp will bounce back in karnataka. Modi can make it happen in 2014 instead of 2018. Its all cycle and natural.

After seeing the UPA I and UPA II rule and its role in mega scams, the way how tax payers money is being siphoned by leaders,it is the wish of the right thinking common people who are concerned desire that the due share of the development of nation go to the poorest among the poor wuthout any caste, religion considerations. What we have heard about todays Gujarat is this.Is anybody is opposed for such thoughts? In fact people are not bothered about BJP or other parties but they want to see the changed senario of development. If at all Modi becomes PM only solace for the people is that they need not see worst situation now being experiencing.Thats all.Whatever fake news said about him is only to scuttle the plans of peoples future good which is not digestable by corrupts.

In democratic party, differences in opinion is common. But it is not something which is beyond solvable thru talks. In just over 24 hours BJP settled the matter. This is the organization skills of BJP.

But many fools here thought it is the disintegration of BJP.

Where as in other party, they will make a monkey as PM if it is born in Gandhi family. Already a monkey is projected as PM by donkeys..

These BJP wallah some how already in the moon it seems. They have already concluded that they won 2014 elections and Narendra Modi is PM.Same situation was there in BJP in 2004 and in Karnataka in 2013.So adamant they are that they want to live in their own world and beleive their own lies but unfortunately forget the judge,The voter.Even after so many scams from Congress the mood of the nation is not in favour of BJP and that is the naked truth as on today.

Modi must be the most disappointed person that Advani is back. Yesterday Modi and many of his supporters here thought that Advani the thorn in Modi's path to become PM had gone forever but they must be shocked and disappointed now.
Somebody in the BJP needs to keep Modi under control and on a tight leash and maybe Advani is the only one who has the stature and seniority in the BJP to do just that.
