Baghdad, Jun 17 (IANS): A series of car bombings killed 30 people in different cities of Iraq, reported BBC citing the police and medics Sunday.
Most of the attacks occurred in the cities with a high concentration of Shia Muslims. These included the cities of Kut, Najaf, Mahmoudiya, Nasiriya and Basra.
Five people were killed in Basra city when two car bombs went off almost at the same time in a market in the city centre. Another car bomb killed at least seven people in the holy city of Najaf. In Kut, two car bombs targeted an industrial area and a gathering of construction workers.
Sunni Muslims in the country accuse Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki-led government of discriminating against them, a claim Iraqi government denies.
Last month was the bloodiest in Iraq since June 2008, with 1,045 civilians and security officials killed.
