Advani-Vajpayee era over; no rethink on ties: Nitish Kumar

Patna, Jun 17 (Agencies) : A day after his party JD-U snapped its 17-year-old ties with the BJP, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that there is no question of going back on the decision taken by the central leadership of the party

Addressing a press conference in state capital Patna, Kumar said, “We were forced to snap ties with the BJP since its central leadership was not listening to our suggestions and ignoring us for the past one year.”

Slamming the BJP leadership he said, “The decision to end ties with the BJP was taken by the central leadership of the JD-U after much deliberations about its possible consequences. There is no question of going back on the decision now. We can’t reconcile with them now.

Rejecting BJP's charge that he was responsible for spilt in NDA, Kumar accused the saffron party of betraying the JD-U and ignoring its senior leaders in an apparent reference to LK Advani.

The Bihar Chief Minister also expressed his displeasure over the elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the BJP’s 2014 Lok Sabha campaign committee chief despite strong opposition from the JD-U.

“The changes recently announced by the BJP chief signals the end of Advani-Vajpayee era. How can we work with those people who betray their elders in the party?”

Praising how former prime minister and senior BJP leader AB Vajpayee managed the BJP-led coalition, Nitish Kumar said, “The JD(U) parting ways with NDA is BJP's failure. BJP created a situation in which even an old ally was forced to leave, If Vajpayee ji is unwell then the party could have entrusted the task of addressing the concerns of NDA allies to LK Advani but he was sidelined too.”

“There have been no issues with the BJP’s Bihar unit but the problems came after the external influence started affecting them, “he clarified.

Explaining why he sacked eleven BJP ministers in his cabinet, Kumar said “I have had cordial relations with deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Shushil Kumar Modi but I was forced to sack the BJP ministers in my cabinet since they skipped the cabinet meet and were not cooperating.”

The reactions from the Bihar Chief Minister came a day after Bihar's ruling JD-U ended its 17-year-old alliance with the BJP after days of simmering tensions, marking a major split in the country's main opposition grouping.

In a bitter end to weeks of feuding, Nitish Kumar also asked Governor DY Patil to sack all the 11 BJP ministers in his government for not working and vowed to prove his majority in the assembly on June 19.

Simultaneously, JD-U president Sharad Yadav also announced that he was quitting as convenor of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The JD-U, one of the oldest allies of the BJP, is the 14th party to desert the NDA, which was born in 1998 and ruled India for six years under the leadership of the now ailing Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Respecting eleders.one should learn from Nitish. His party JDU is the previous Samatha Party founded by Mr.George Fernandes who is now ailing.Nitish did not even remember this tall and patriotic politician
who was so comferatble with BJP.He was secular to the core unlike pretender Nitish.Nitish has insulted GF with his immature behaviour succumbing to greedy forces. I am pretty sure people here will like this since I am talking about George Fernandes now.

I really do not understand who is Nitish to suggest or decide on BJP's internal decisions ? They have ed Modi as their party's campaign head. And it is very clearly conveyed that Prime Ministreal candidate will be decided in Dec 2013 in consultation with NDA partners. Suppose if BJP suggests that they do not want Nitish as CM , will he agree ??
It is really rediculous on part of Nitish to break away from NDA.

I saw some people (no doubt they are non-congress supporters) sharing picture on social networking sites:-
One large room where bundle of currencies, gold biscuits have been stacked & title given to the picture is, ‘Swiss bank treasury’. Also key Congress leader’s names (Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Chidambaram etc…) with millions of amount mentioned saying, this money belongs to congress leaders!!!

How the people who share this picture can think so cheaply?
    - Did Swiss Bank ever release picture of their treasury?
    - Have they ever disclosed names of their account holders?
    - Don’t they open an account, who are not belonging to congress party?

This is just an example, how BJP misguides people.
    Ridiculous!!!

As per my openion, he can handle (if NDA comes to power !!!)portfolios like agriculture, urban/rural develpment, health, finance, forest etc... because, these portfolios are 'less sensitive', with some skills these can be handled. Also if any mistake happens there is second chance to correct it. Where as Home, Defence, External Affairs, Foreign ministry are very sensitive (delicate) portfolios, one wrong move or statement can create havoc and entire nation knows, how Modi speaks senselessly, still he has not prepared himself for national level politics.

yes, 'G' alphabet relates to Modi... like G for Gundagiri.

Not only Prime Minister, feku Modi should be stopped from becoming Home Minister, Defence Minister, External Affairs Minister also... those are key posts & Modi's tongue can cause risk, if he handle these posts.

The split between BJP-JDU was eminent and is better for the country. This would lead to elimination of pseudo secularist politicians and issue based real politics will rule the country.

Economic progress is the real progress and in my opinion there is nothing wrong to expect this to happen with BJP lead by Mr. Modi

Atalji & Advani's, era is over in BJP. We cannot reconcile with new era That their era is over in BJP was known to all. It's a natural and an organic process in any organisation, be it business or politics. So, it is hard to imagine that JD(U) did not comprehend this. Being from Bihar, I can say with confidence that JD(U)'s decision will hurt them the most. Their lack of integrity in the era of coalition politics is out in the open.

Mr Nitish has ditched the BJP . Mr Modi's appointment as campaign manager is internal to BJP's strategy. He should have waited until Lok sabha elections were over and then decided but looks like he understands very well that he will have to come up with some tricks to win in the LOK SABHA.

Bollu, once again tollu. Please note that JP too was a congressman originally and he revolted against Indira Gandhi and the emergency as many other congressmen did then. Many congressmen have today returned to the congress fold. Therefore do not be surprised if Nitish aligns with the congress to strengthen the secular forces as the other alternative is only a dark, fundamentalist, divisive and polarizing option offered by Modi.

Dear Nitish kumarji,Everybody have their times, good or bad.Even we can say that your time is also over.Being a highly "principled politician" people expected that you will resign immediately from CMs post as you are elected in Bihar NOT of your own capacity but JOINING hands with BJP.So present mandate is JDU/BJP jointly not joint and several. It is is big shame that you stiil continue as CM for which you have no moral right. This simple logic you do not understand, what could be expected from you?
