Narendra Modi faking figures to claim Gujarat development: Congress

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) : Congress today sought to call the bluff of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi saying his governance was a "failure" and he was faking figures to claim development when the state is lacking badly in social sectors.

Congress Communication chief Ajay Maken cited the figures of a study conducted by the Planning Commission and said Gujarat ranks 16th in health, 14th in education and 11th in infrastructure. This, he said, showed that Modi's governance was a failure.

"What is he taking credit for? Is he taking credit for low rank in social sectors like health and education?...We need to tell the truth to the people," he said.

Going on to attack Modi for claiming that Gujarat is the foremost in development, Maken said, "His governance is faulty and his publicity model is fake."

To press his point, he referred to the comments made by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar where he has reportedly said that Modi's governance failed in 2002 during riots.

"Better he understood late than never. We have been saying this since 2002 and even Atal Behari Vajpayee had then reminded Modi of Rajdharma", Maken said taking a dig at Parrikar.

Maken also sought to dismiss the projection by a section of corporates that Gujarat was the best investment destination.

"I don't think they are right as FDI is the best indicator of ease of doing business in a state and RBI has said Gujarat was behind Maharashtra, Delhi and other Congress-ruled states despite expatriate Gujaratis being one of the richest in the world," he said.

Maken said the Planning Commission study has exposed the "falsehood" about development being propagated by Modi.

He said the study shows that top three states in health are Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. In education, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha, and in infrastructure the states are Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Odisha.

"It clearly indicates that while Gujarat has huge resources to be spent on health, education and infrastructure, it has miserably failed to do so, thereby indicating a definite mis-governance by Modi," he said.

Special invesntigation team has been appointed for Gujarat riots case and great CBI was involved in the inevestigation too. They did their best to find the guilt in Modi, but could not and finally gave clean chit. The problem is that the media is projecting this incident in a manner to believe that Modi is soley responsible for the riots. This is bad media work.

Congress instead of giving these most rubbish statements start reconsolidating your position by some contribution to nation and stop corruption saga. Its only few months left for election.Despite your miserable rule People still prefer you. But you must deliver now atleast something to show. If Modi becomes PM tomorrow you blame yourself and do not blame people. Currently with this type of performance you have no chance to come to power this time. Recent ministry expansion including of 85 years man shows you have no mood to improve . People who guided for this expansion further decreased your chances to win next elections. Almost all candidates were old there probably cannot perform because of age. You had a good chance to give a eyeporking candidates during expansion which you faled there. Everytime you fall Modi gains. Modi is much sharper than you . Get started immediately so that we can vote and eliminate Modi.

Modi has done Masscare of innocients, then why Congress not punishing him. whereas Modi has done tremedous development compared to other CMs, then why Congress lying that that is fake development. here congress can't punish him for mascare which has done, but trying to punish for not done development which is not correct. Congress is doing this because they want to hide thier own sins of corruption at centre?

It's already proved that Congress biggest leaders were behind Sikh riots why don't you speak on those????? Anyone can comment any extent but proving those comments is hard. Also don't use example of Karnataka with Gujrat, please check records has there been any riots post 2002, people are leaving happily and peacefully in Gujarat why unnecessary we need to spread wrong info, if you hate a person you shouldn't scrutinize his charector....

India is a democracy and Modi is Citizen of India so he is very well eligible to contest any election in India, if people want's him they would vote him and If you don't like him please don't vote him, but you don't decide on the people of the country what they should do, they have their educated brain which is open for any thoughts, and also for your information Gujarat is in India and not in Pakistan.

Same with you, if you dont like the Congress dont vote for them but if BJP supporters like yourself have the right to criticize the Congress for their misdeeds so do I and other Congress supporters have the right to criticize the false propaganda being spread by Modi supporters about Modi.
If you say Gujarat is in India then may I remind you that Smt. Sonia Gandhi is not just an 'Indian' national now but she has also been a legally elected Member of Parliament to the 'Inidan' Lok Sabha on more than one occasion. In true Indian tradition she is still faithful to her 'Indian' husband even after his death and she has given him to 'Indian' children.
You have a problem with Congress supporters criticizing Modi but you dont seem to have a problem with BJP supporters indulging in maligning the Congress and the Gandhi family. Moreover, remember Indians have voted for the Nehru-Gandhi family members and brought them to power time and again. They have come to power by legally winning elections over and over again. So what Dynasty rule BJP supporters are talking about ?????

I really can't understand why you people are so much behind Modi. He has done enough developments so he has been accepted by people in Gujarat. This by election he didn't even hold a single campaign rally but people made sure Congress is wiped out from their region. If congress has really made any developments or progress let them highlight those developments rather than targetting Modi and diverting the topic of developing India. People should really understand that India needs a good healthy politics rather than blame game or targeting individual. If congress has really made good for the people then they would again come to power if they have done nothing then its time for change, don't always go by rumours which is spread against modi, he has definatly done enough for his state, i dont think so Gujarathi are fools to elect him for 3 rd time so always rather than criticizing an individual try to compete with him that would give a better environment for growth and progress of the Nation. -

There is absolutely no wrong if he comes to power. He has been accepted as an mass leader by people of India and world that is the reason there is so many comments, if you feel he is good for nothing why media is highlighting every bit of his story, i see all media is behind him which has made him the mass leader and contender for PM if he is called as communal person then what do you tell for congress massacre of Sikh during Indira Gandhi era was it right and justified as per your view.

Narendra Modi is neither a 'Lion' nor a 'Tiger'. He is a 'Wolf' who is now trying to wear 'Sheep's' clothing i.e. he and his American PR agency as well as big Indian corporates/Media houses are desperately trying to project a false image of Modi as a clean 'Secular' man without any communal taint.
Although we are disappointed with the corruption in the Congress we have no option before us. The BJP with Modi will only bring in a 'Hardline Communal Government' with the RSS in remote control. Moreover, its not as though the BJP themselves are corruption-free saints. Further, there is no other political party or a 'Combination Front' which has a national coverage or country-wide impact to win elections and form a government on their own. If for example the Congress supporters vote for the Aam Aadmi party it will only split the Congress votes thus indirectly helping the BJP to come to power because the BJP hardline votes may not split.
So there is no way we can allow a hardline BJP govt. to come to power, directly or indirectly through vote splitting.
In short we are still supporting the Congress with the earnest hope that they clean up their corruption-mess once and for all.

For all those who believe that it is due to Narendra Modi only Gujarat is Developed must read below Statistics before coming to any conclusion on development:
In 1991, a full 10 years before Modi arrived as many as 17,940 out of 18,028 villages were already electrified.
87.5% of Gujarat’s road was already asphalted before Modi.
By 2000-01, Gujarat’s share in India’s manufacturing had already risen to 28.7%.
Since 1980, Gujarat has been India’s poster state. Modi has nothing to do with the world’s largest ship-breaking yard coming up in Bhavnagar, nor with the setting up of the Ambani refinery in Jamnagar.
Well before Modi, Gujarat accounted for 45% of India’s petroleum products.
Since the 1990s, Gujarat produces as much as 26% of the country’s pharmaceuticals.
Because of the CM Chimanbhai Patel’s intervention in 1993, port traffic in the state jumped from a mere 3.18 million tonnes in1981 to 86.1 million tonnes in 2001.
During the 1990s, Gujarat successfully augmented 35% of its power generation capacity.
If Gujarat’s agriculture is prospering today, it is because the state has begun to receive Sardar Sarovar waters from 2002. Modi had little to do with the inauguration of this project.
If there was ever a person who reaped what somebody else had sown, then that is Modi.

Corrupt congress has lost to MODI before election. The frustrated statement from congress shows how pathetic condition they are in. Helpless congis have started preparing fake reports.

People of Gujarath are wise to elect Modi 3rd time. People voted for Modi are not fools like Congress. Alwa ismail? If your party has any guts do at least 1% development works of Modi, before election.

This transition of BJP’s politics and Modi’s candidature for prime minster ship is a signal of sorts of the descent of fascism in India. This fascist potential may become actualized if ignored by those political formations which are committed to the interests of weaker sections of society and for liberal values. The classical fascism which trampled Europe’s Germany and Italy had certain characteristics, which are there in the policies of BJP and more so with Modi being on the helm. The major party of UPA, Congress, is also for some of the economic policies which BJP is insisting on. There are more points which fit into Modi’s persona being a fascist one. To begin with more than any other leader his harsh unrelenting opposition to minorities is a ploy to consolidate the majority community. Surely this communal polarization has been going on in India more so from last several decades through the communal violence. The latest in this is that RSS seems to have outsourced some of its vehemence to the communalized state apparatus. This was so much visible in the recent Dhule (Maharashtra) violence where the police itself went on to kill the Muslims on some pretext. The polarization along religious lines and communal fascist mobilization is also being achieved through the acts of terror, which are attributed to the Muslims, irrespective of who does it. In this polarization Modi is the hero of the section of society, which is fed with the poison of communal propaganda.
