Kerala politician A.C.Shanmugha Das dead


Kozhikode (Kerala), Jun 28 (IANS): Veteran Kerala politician and thrice state minister A.C. Shanmugha Das, passed away here Wednesday night following a heart failure, family sources said.

The 74-year-old was a seven time member of the state assembly from Baluserry town in Kozhikode district. He remained a legislator for 33 years.

Beginning his career as a Congressman, Das in 1978 left the Congress party along with present Defence Minister A.K.Antony and their party Congress (U) joined as an ally of the Left here.

Though Antony returned to the Congress party in 1982, Das remained with the Left and teamed up with Sharad Pawar.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
