SC gives timeframe for vacating government accommodation

New Delhi, Jul 5 (IANS): Supreme Court Friday issued guidelines giving timeframe for vacating government accommodation by judges and government employees upon their retirement or seizing to occupy the office. This also applies to members of parliament.

The apex court bench headed by Justice P. Satsasivam said that judges would vacate government accommodation within one month of their retirement and the government employee would do so within 15 days of their retirement.

In case of member of parliament, if they fail to vacate government accommodation within a stipulated time then the estate department would report the matter to speaker Lok Sabha or chairman Rajya Sabha as the case may be.

The speaker Lok Sabha would in turn refer the matter to the house committee which would take appropriate steps to secure the vacation of government accommodation.
