Petrol price hiked by Rs 1.55 per litre

New Delhi, Jul 14 (PTI): Petrol price was today hiked by a steep Rs 1.55 a litre, the fourth increase in rates in six weeks, as falling rupee made oil imports costlier.

Oil companies raised petrol rates by Rs 1.55 a litre, excluding local sales tax or VAT, with effect from midnight.

Actual increase will be higher and will vary from city to city depending on local taxes.

Petrol price in Delhi has been hiked by Rs 1.86 per litre to Rs 70.44, effective tomorrow, as against Rs 68.58 currently.

This is the fourth increase in rates since June. Oil firms had on June 1 raised prices by 75 paisa, excluding VAT, and followed it with a Rs 2 per litre increase on June 16 and a Rs 1.82 on June 29.
The revision in prices, as per the practice of changing rates in line with cost every fortnight, was due on Tuesday July 16 but will be raised a day earlier.

However, there will be no change in diesel prices just yet as the revision in its rates are due at the month end.

With the latest increase, all of the gains made from four reductions in prices earlier this year had been neutralised. The rates cuts had brought down the price to Rs 63.01 at the beginning of May.

    Dear Jossey,

You are absolutely right. Fekus and Dumbos did not understand ECONOMICS during last 9 years. The result is rupee reached 65 Rupees, Petrol today costs 75 Rs. Both petrol and Rupee were around 40-45 Rs 9 years back.

Frequent price hike, very Sad, middle class is hit hard. How
    much to bear?
Ever since Petroleum refineries sector is privatized, we are facing frequent price hike.

Reliance Petroleum in Jamnagar, Gujarat, has not benefited the nation or common man. It might have benefited the Company and some Politicians.
Direct Pipe Line project didn't materialize.

It is high time, Govt should seriously consider nationalizing Petroleum refineries sector.
Moreover Minister said,Oil Mafia is threatening Govt also!

Government must increase the petrol price for small cars. At present people are taking it easy i.e. each and every house got 1 small car and bike. To avoid Smoking and drinking the governments are increasing the tax likewise Government must discourage the citizen to consume less petrol products. Please use bus, Train for travelling, Government must fix the rate for petrol products i.e. bus and truck less and for 4/2 wheelers more. If you want your own vehicle than don’t cry. It is not only valuation of I.Rs is down just see Dollar is gone up so value of all countries whose currency is connected to dollar is decreased. So automatically when Government is spending dollar for purchasing Petrol the price will go up.

If we are fed up of fuel price hikes, costs of vehicles and their maintenance, air pollution and sound pollution, a new concept is a suitable solution.
The new concept can minimize the fuel consumption (energy), reduce costs (production, running and maintenance of vehicles), increase the capacities of existing vehicles to several times and eliminate the health hazardous air pollution and peace disturbing sound pollution.
Perhaps, it can break the lengthy evolution of automobiles with a revolutionary change, to make a world of difference.
It is our option to choose the solution or enjoy the existing situation.
Instead of depending on the selfish leaders for solution, we together can do something to our society, economy and the environment.

Frequent increase of petrol prices is really not good. But the government too can't do much about this because the price is determined on petrol rate on international market.Hope, things improve better in future.Thanq.

This price increase is because of Rs Vs Dollar .Since Rupee value went down, The petrol price is increasing. This is because of failure of UPA and not because of international crude price.

I was castigated by the blind supporters of UPA government who cannot understand 'E' of economics ! We have endless entitlement schemes when the country is deep in deficits. Rampant corruption and infrastructure/policy bottlenecks are keeping international investors away from out country. The rupee will decline further. The $300 billion in reserves is no way sufficient to cover the deficits and stabilize the rupee against dollar.

70% of the cost/litre of petroleum products in India is taxation. Ofcourse, none of this matters to the oblivious middleclass who'll whine endlessly but fail to see the real reasons. Those who support Siddu's "1 Rs rice/cheap liquor for poor" and UPAs endless vote-bank entitlement schemes have no right to complain. After all, they voted for these clowns who are now running our economy into the ground.
