Manipal, Jan 22: Akbar Ali (28) from Malpe and Madhava (27) of Mattu near Katapadi here were killed in a road accident that took place near the Guddeangady mosque on Saturday night.
They both were active volleyball players, riding a Hero Honda bike on their way to Karipan-Bailur for a floodlight tournament. A lorry from the opposite direction hit the bike head-on around 10-30 pm. Severely injured, they were rushed to the hospital.
Because of the night time, the injured could be taken only two hours later to the hospital by the police. With no immediate medical attention available, the two are said to have succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital.
The Hiriadka police are investigating the matter.
