2 AI pilots suspended for allowing actress inside cockpit

New Delhi, July 18 (DHNS) : Two Air India (AI) pilots have landed in trouble after they allowed south Indian actor Nithya Menon to sit inside the cockpit mid-air on a Bangalore-Hyderabad flight violating safety norms.

Taking serious view of the incident which took place last month, aviation regulator Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is now conducting a thorough probe. The airline has suspended the pilots, Jagan M Reddy and co-pilot S Kiran, pending inquiry.

“The pilots have been taken off the roster. A probe is on. The matter came to light after a passenger lodged a complaint,” an AI official said.

According to the complaint, Menon, a Malayali born in Bangalore, was allowed into the cockpit when the flight was mid-air. She had occupied the observer’s seat, which is reserved for examiners and observers authorised by the DGCA.

Meanwhile, the pilots could not be reached for their comments. Nithya Menon’s manager Venkat told Deccan Herald that the news was fabricated and she was not on that particular flight.

    Purely a guess:

The cockpit of a yatch is where the boat is controlled from. It is usually a sunken part, with access to the cabin etc. The fact that it is sunken would make it resemble the pits used for animal fighting (dogs, bears, cocks etc.). Therefore, a cock pit would be a pit used for cockfighting.

Since most aviation terminology comes from the naval world, the part with the controls would naturally be called the cockpit.

    What do you think?
Commander Bandu have explained the true meaning mine is only a guess !

A Pit where the Cock revolves round and round with no particular destination in mind.It has limited
    space to manoeuvre and collapses
within minutes and is not recharged that easily.i share my limited knowledge with you. Here in this case the pilots thought on similar lines.
Then there is an actual Cockpit in a plane. Some Captains, here, may describe it better.
Hope you are slightly enlightened than before you posed the question.

South Indian actress travelling in the cockpit in an Air India plane. Unbelievable and shocking incident. Probably she was travelling free so the the pilots felt pity on her and gave her a cockpit seat as the plane was full.

    Dear friends,
In aviation, shipping and oil industries, there is a zero tolerance policy on alcohol, drugs and lack of discipline.
Anyone breaching these lines can and will be immediately sent home or jailed.
This is because we have the lives of several people and the environment in our hands.
Putting it simply, at times we will have to make a decision within a split second.
Even a small distraction might cause several lives to be lost.
I can play with my own life - but I have no right to play with the life of others.
I request the readers not to make comments without knowing these factors.
Have a nice day all of you.

    Cap,Walty,
Don't localize your comment only to cover aviation and marine rules.
A bus driver , a train driver, too is under the same law for he too is transporting lives not cattle.( more lives than a plane most times )
Where does alcohol and drugs come into this.
The distraction is cockpit is out of bounds to anyone other than designated airline staff.
