Jayalalithaa orders probe into BJP leader's murder


Chennai, Jul 21 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Sunday ordered a probe by a special investigation division (SID) of police into BJP leader V. Ramesh's murder.

Expressing shock over the killing, she said she had instructed the director general of police to "speedily investigate the murder of Auditor Ramesh".

Ramesh, 52, a chartered accountant, was hacked to death by four men Friday night at Salem, around 340 km from here.

Jayalalithaa said the SID will also take over the ongoing investigation of the July 1 murder of Vellaiyappan, the state secretary of the Hindu Munnani at Vellore.

Meanwhile, police have increased the security to the Bharatiya Janata Party state headquarters here.
