17 soldiers killed, 35 injured in Egypt accident


Cairo, Jul 22 (IANS): As many as 17 soldiers were killed and 35 others injured in a bus-truck collision in Egypt's Beheira governorate, north of the capital Cairo, state media reported.

The accident took place on the Wadi el-Natroun-Alamein highway, Xinhua reported citing al-Ahram online.

The dead were between 28 and 37 years old.

The injured were airlifted by helicopter to an army hospital in Cairo, an official said.

According to official figures, about 10,000 people in Egypt are killed in road accidents every year.
