Three jewellers arrested for buying stolen ornaments


New Delhi, July 27 (IANS): Three jewellers were arrested for buying stolen jewellery items from robbers and snatchers here, police said Saturday.

Deepak Verma, 35 were arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Noida Wednesday while Naushad Ali, 36 and Anil Vats, 28 were arrested from Palam area in west Delhi Thursday, said an official.

Additional Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav said the arrests were made following the interrogation of Nitin and Akhay, two robbers arrested July 21 from Palam area.

"Verma used to purchase stolen jewellery articles from the accused Nitin and Akshay at the rate of 40 percent of rate in the open market. As of now, he has purchased about 8 gold chains and 4 gold bangles from them, which they snatched from different parts of south and west Delhi.

The duo had also sold stolen jewellery to Naushad Ali and Vats through their associate Rohit, who was also arrested earlier.
