Residents shoot down suicide bomber in Pakistan

Islamabad, July 28 (IANS): A terrorist attack was averted when residents of a town in Pakistan's Quetta city killed an alleged suicide bomber just ahead of Iftar, the time for breaking Ramadan fast for people in the evening.

The incident occurred as a suspected suicide bomber was noticed walking in the city's Hazara Town in Balochistan province, the Dawn reported.

According to police officer Mir Zubair Mehmood, residents said they initially tried to stop the suspected bomber from entering the area. But he refused to do comply. Residents then fired gunshots and killed him on the spot.

"A major terrorist attack was averted," Mehmood said, adding that a suicide jacket and a hand grenade were recovered from his possession.

Deputy Inspector General Operations Fayyaz Sumbal confirmed that a suicide jacket was recovered from the attacker and it had been safely defused.
