Militants kill special police officer


Srinagar, July 28 (IANS): A special police officer (SPO) was shot dead by militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town Sunday morning, police said.

The militants opened fire at Mudasir Ahmad near his home in Untoo Hamam locality. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot, a police officer said.

Security forces launched a hunt for killers. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing.

On Friday, guerrillas shot and injured a sarpanch in the town while he was leaving a mosque.
