Mangalore, Jan 26: “Belloor Kolathamajalu ‘Jaya – Vijaya’ Jodukere Kambala”, the historical buffalo race of Dakshina Kannada district, will be held at Kolathamajalu in Bantwal taluk near here on Saturday January 28.
Addressing a press meet here, A Sadananda Shetty, honorary president, Kambala Committee, and B Chittaranjan Rai, manager, said that this year will see the decennial celebrations of the buffalo race in Kolathamajalu. A water tank at a cost of Rs 5 lac has been exclusively constructed for the buffalo race, informed Shetty.
The race will be inaugurated by Mijaruguttu Anand Alva at 8.30 am on that day. Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Trust, will preside over a stage programme on the same evening.
Gunapala Kadamba, a Kambla expert, said that nearly 155 buffalos will take part in this year’s race, which will be flood-lit.
