Chinese official sacked over daughter's lavish wedding

Beijing, July 29 (IANS): The local head of the Communist Party of China in a poverty-stricken township has been sacked for organising a lavish wedding banquet for his daughter.

The party, in a circular issued Monday, said this should serve as a warning to all party members, Xinhua reported.

Yue Shuwang, party chief in Pingdingbao in impoverished Guyuan county in Hebei province, was removed from his post after an investigation showed that he spent 200,000 yuan (over $32,000) on his daughter's wedding banquet July 17.

The man also received gifts worth one million yuan.

Yue has been ordered to return the money he accepted.

The party circular also called for elimination of formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance.
