Kolkata rape victim says her morphed photos put on web

Kolkata, July 31 (IANS): Even as her fight for justice continues, the victim of the Park Street rape incident here has filed a police complaint alleging that a person has morphed her photos, made derogatory remarks and splashed them on the internet.

The Anglo-Indian woman, 37, who was allegedly raped in the heart of the city early last year, in a complaint to the cyber cell of the city police, alleged a person hacked her Facebook profile and morphed some of her pictures and circulated them on the web.

"The person has taken six of my pictures from my Facebook account, created a collage making derogatory remarks against me as well as the judiciary, and posted them on the web," the mother of two said here Wednesday.

The woman who was allegedly raped at gun point inside a moving car and later thrown out also had words of advice for other women active on social networking sites.

"I want to tell every girl that such perverts are lurking everywhere. So, beware of your Facebook and other social networking profiles," she said.

The in-camera trial of the rape case has been continuing for the last few months before a city court. While five people have been charged for the offence by the court, only three are behind bars. Two others, including the prime suspect, are at large.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had courted controversy after she dubbed the case as "fabricated".

Trinamool Congress parliamentarian Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar too had to apologise for calling the incident a "sex deal gone wrong".
