Mangalore, Jan 28: A two-day conference on “Integrated research with social agenda: An action plan for sustainable Coastal development of Karnataka” was organized by the Association of British Scholars (Mangalore Chapter) in association with the Urban Research Centre (Mangalore) and College of Fisheries (Mangalore), here on Friday January 27.
In her keynote address, Professor Leela Rao, media consultant, said that the language used by the researches in their complex information must be simplified for the benefit of the people outside their circle.
She added that though India has made tremendous progress in the fields of industry and commercial sector, food production, science and technology, a significant portion of the population is still under the covers of poverty and negligence.
Eunice Crook, South India director of British Council, appealed the scientists to have a better rapport with the people to achieve sustainable development.
While Prof P Keshavnath, dean, Fisheries College, presided over the function, Celine Aranha, chairperson, Urban Research Centre, responded to the keynote address.
