Street children write to Delhi Police chief

New Delhi, August 1 (IANS): A group of street children have sent a letter to Delhi's new police chief Bhim Sain Bassi to apprise him about the police brutality they face on daily basis, a voluntary organisation said Thursday.

"A group of street children have written a letter to the chief of Delhi Police about the atrocities and brutality they face by the police officers. Hope the new commissioner of police will take the issue on priority," said Sanjay Gupta, director, Childhood Enhancement Through Training and Action (CHETNA), an NGO working for street children.

According to the letter, in the past 15 days three cases of police atrocities on street children have been reported from various parts of the capital.

"Sir, kindly take note of police atrocities on street children. We hope that you will take strict action against the officers who behave brutally with us and urge them to be more child friendly," it said.
