Leverkusen sign Bayern's Emre Can

Berlin, Aug 3 (IANS): Emre Can left treble winner Bayern Munich to join rivals Bayer Leverkusen for four years.

Can signed a contract Friday and will stay at Leverkusen till June 2017. The Under-21 German international played one season for the first Bayern Munich team to score one goal in four matches. However, he never made the break into the starting team, reports Xinhua.

"Emre Can is one of the biggest German talents. We allowed him this move to gain more match practice. We have done this already with Toni Kroos at Leverkusen, Philipp Lahm at Stuttgart and David Alaba at Hoffenheim," Bayern's chief executive Karl Heinz Rummenigge said.

Leverkusen's chief executive Wolfgang Holzhaeuser said: "Emre Can is one of the biggest German talents in the midfielder position. I am convinced that he will help us decisively."

Both clubs agreed to maintain silence over contract details. The 19-year-old will receive jersey No.10 at Leverkusen and will be presented Sunday.

"Bayer Leverkusen is one of the top teams in the Bundesliga and on top of that they play in the UEFA Champions League. I want to make my contributions to help the club in all competitions," Can said.
