Ensure Durga Shakti is not unfairly treated: Sonia to PM

New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS): Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure fair treatment for IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who has been suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government, and stressed need for safeguards to protect officials "working to uphold rule of law".

"We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated," Gandhi wrote in her letter to the prime minister, suggesting it be ensured the officer was not unduly harassed by the state government.

"It is reported that Ms Durga Shakti Nagpal, a young IAS officer of UP has been hastily suspended for unsubstantiated reasons. There is widespread concern because the officer, in the course of her public duties, was seen to be standing up to vested interests engaging in illegal activity," Gandhi further said in her letter dated Aug 2 which was accessed by IANS Saturday.

According to Gandhi, "this particular instance has highlighted the need to assess if there are adequate safeguards in place to protect executive functionaries working beyond the average call of duty to uphold the rule of law".

The Congress chief further said that "the implementation machinery must feel that the conditions are conducive to the delivery of public services without fear or favour".

Noting that "some good beginnings have been made towards administrative reforms," she said that "the issues that have come to be profiled in Ms Nagpal's case also need focus".

The suspension of Nagpal, a 28-year-old 2009-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) by the UP government July 29, has led to a public outcry.

Nagpal, who was suspended for allegedly taking on the politically well-connected sand-mining dons, backed by powerful real estate barons, has stirred the country and made the young bespectacled woman - aptly named after the Goddess Durga of the Hindu pantheon who is worshipped as a symbol of feminine power - a crusader who dared to tread where others feared.

As outrage mounted against the arbitrary manner the state government suspended the woman IAS officer, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav gave the entire episode a religious twist by saying that the sub-divisional magistrate of Noida was removed for razing a mosque wall and which could have led to inter-community tensions in the area and not for any action against the "sand mafia".

Spot on R.Bhandarkar, I endorse your views - I have had a lot of regard for MMS, sadly over the years he has proved himself a spineless / impotent PM under the shrewd and scheming Italian lady's chaddi. Being the son of an upright Central Govt. officer - I fully support this young bright officer. UP politics has ruined India - given that they have they bulk of seats / have sent in most of the PM's. It is time we have a change at the center, get in Modi for a change (congress yuvraj is under the baton of "ROBER' varadwaraj. Congress party has ruined india,

I admire and respect the stand taken by Ms. Sonia Gandhi on the Durga Shakti suspension case, but why can't the P.M., act on his own and why should he take orders from ms. Gandhi, and why different yard sticks for Mr. Ashok Khemka and the suspended Jaisalmer IPS. law and action should be fair and square, only then will the people belive in your intentions.

The BJP is not far behind, please check cases in M.P. on how IAS officers are treated and suspended or transferred. The venom and syndicate of corrupt IAS/IPS-politican-business man nexus has ruined the country and the likes of Durga and the IAS officer from T.N., who was transferred 18 times in his 20 yr service are scape goats. Anna, Kejriwal & Co., will die of hunger by their hunger strikes but the thick skinned politicans will not change an inch.if this country has to improve we need military rule and disband the farce of democracy in which we live, where democracy is only for the rich and priveliged and the poor are still treated as slaves.

A strong judicary should be in place to takle the mess we are in. In every state of India irrespective of which political party is in power we will surely find atelast one Durga Shakti case.So don't expect any action from the political class. Action should should be from the people to fight for justice and the IAS cades to ensure justice is done, to enable govt servants to act lawfully and truthfully, rather than slaves of any political party.

The so called greatest economists, the great PM of our country takes order from Italian and a party head to run affairs of the country, then what is the use of PM for our country ???. Were are those -Corrupt Pappu party supporters who always cry that RSS calls the shots in BJP ??? Where are those to jump to give credit to Sonia Gandhi for so called "Sacrificing the PM Chair ???, if she has the authority to call shots then why need that chair & take a blame for India going in a Con-gress(opposite of Progress) way. Today anything good happens to the country credit goes to Sonia Gandhi, anything bad happens, poor MMS has to take the blame. Two supreme state heads appointed by a outsider just as her Remote control and she orders which file to sign, and her supporters hail it as BIG Sacrifice. HAHAHAH, Congress can make only some people fools for votebank but not the whole country.

Congress being a prime ruling party, Sonia's a#% was on fire and had to interpret on Durga Shakti's issue. All plan was made by SP the alliance of congress to give the communal colour on Durga Shakti's action. But the SP totally failed and got their head burried in shame. The sand mafia consisting 85% of SP ministers has been ruling the state and creating communal violence is pocket of states and goes unreported. God hears and sometimes send a good Samaritan to check on the crime and they sent Durga. The name is enough.

This is just a lip service from the Congress Supremo and Prime Minister Manmohan singh. In fact the survival of UPA govt at the Centre is fully dependent on Goonda MPs of Mulayam Singh's SP Party. So Congress people do not want to expose the Mafia link of Mulayam and side with Durga Shakti Nagpal openly. Moreover just see what happened the Mr. Ashok Khemka a most daring & Honest IAS officer of Haryana which is under congress rule.
In fact Durga Shakti does not require the lip sympathy of Cong because all the right thinking people of entire India are with her.

The PM should have acted much much earlier and without this diktat.
It is a small mercy that Madam Sonia is in the know of things. However, it is also a known fact that the UPA needs the SP to survive.
How can all this happen in a civilized country like ours is beyond me! That stupid SP, MP- Narendra something said that it took 41 minutes for him to get the honest IAS officer suspended! What he actually means that he was 'brain-dead' for 41 minutes! But what about the rest?
    Are they brain dead forever?
Is this a lesson to be taught for the aspiring IAS officers? Won't they shudder reading all this?
How can we allow Mongrels to rule us?
Study aspiring to be the country's top most officer only to be bull-dozed by third rate illiterates! Shee....Even public outcry does not seem to deter these goons....
