Udupi, Aug 6: Udupi deanery level one-day ‘Yuva Sammelan-2013’ of ICYM in association with ICYM units was held on Sunday August 4 at Don Bosco Hall, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi.
Fr Fred Mascarenhas presided over the inaugural function while MLA Pramod Madhawaraj, Fr Alban D’Souza, deanery youth director, Rennal D’Souza, vice-president, ICYM Udupi dioceses, Alwyn Fernandes, reporter, ICYM Udupi Diocese, Roshan Sequeira, president, Udupi ICYM deanery, Roy D’Souza, president, ICYM Udupi unit, Maxim D’Sa, animator, Udupi deanery ICYM, and Walter D’Souza, animator, Udupi ICYM unit, were present on the dais.
Madhawaraj inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. In his address, he highlighted that Christians are doing good work all year through but very few work with social concern.
“So, whatever social work they do, try to make it public so everyone will learn from it and it will help more to the society. People have elected me for five years as MLA of Udupi, I will keep my word by serving you all with my good work,” he said.
Fr Mascarenhas, in his presidential address he said, “In this Sammelan, you will learn many good things. The skits you perform will have specific themes, so try to implement the good points from those in each one of your lives. As a non-Catholic person, Pramod does a lot good work without expecting anything in return. Let us all take him as a role model and try to serve the people in need.”
Fr Alban D’Souza, deanery youth director, wished all the participants to take the good things in life and gave a brief account about the entire day’s programme.
Roshan Sequeira, Udupi deanery ICYM president, welcomed the gathering. Kennith Picado compered the inaugural stage function.
After the formal stage function Arun Ajekar, former president, ICYM Mangalore Diocese, conducted the ice-breaking session.
Roshan Castelino, former president, ICYM Karnataka Region, conducted a session on ‘Youth’s Role in the Society’. Fr Clifford Fernandes, professor, St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu, conducted a session on the faithful leaving of youth in the family.
Fr Clifford Fernandes presided over the Holy Eucharistic mass.
After noon, cultural competitions were held for the six church units with different themes for each.
Udyavar unit emerged winners while Udupi unit were the runners-up.
Fr Mascarenhas presided over the valedictory function while Fr Alban, Fr Wilson, Maxim D’Sa, Rennal D’Souza, Alwyn Fernandes, Roshan Sequeira, Amritha D’Silva, Roy D’Souza, and Vivita were present on the dais.
Raina Saldanha compered the programme. Vivita welcome the all the guests. Roy D’Souza thanked everyone for the support.
Walter D’Souza announced the winners of the culture competitions.
A total of 109 youth from seven parishes of Udupi, Udyavar, Katpady, Kalmady, Kuntalnagar, Prerampalli, and Moodubelle, actively participated in the Sammelan.
