Parliament disrupted over Telangana, adjourned

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS): Both houses of parliament were Thursday adjourned till noon over the Telangana issue. The Lok Sabha was adjourned over the demand for a united Andhra Pradesh, while BJP members walked out of the Rajya Sabha over the naming of some of its members in the house bulletin for disrupting proceedings.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met at 11 a.m., Congress and Telugu Desam Party members, opposed to the carving of Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh, raised their demand for the state remaining united.

After efforts to allow the question hour to function failed, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house till noon.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members walked out as the house bulletin had named 20 BJP MPs for violating rules of the house.

"The bulletin names members of BJP and TDP in a manner not acceptable in last three days. Congress members have also violated etiquette but their names are not mentioned," said Arun Jaitley, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

BJP staged a walkout followed by Shiv Sena and the AIADMK.

The TDP members, however, continued their demonstration near Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari's podium, after which the house was adjourned till noon.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony is expected to make a fresh statement in parliament over the killing Tuesday of five Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir.
