Dawood has been chased out of Pakistan: Senior Pakistan official

London, Aug 9 (PTI): For the first time, Pakistan has admitted to the presence of one of India's most wanted terrorists Dawood Ibrahim but said he has been "chased out" and could be in the "UAE".

"Dawood (Ibrahim) was in Pakistan but I believe he was chased out of Pakistan. If he is in Pakistan, he should be hounded and arrested. We cannot allow such gangsters to operate from the country," said Shahryar Khan, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's special envoy for improving relations with India.

The former diplomat said he stressed that if the gangster were in the country he would have been arrested by now.

He was speaking to reporters at a pre-launch event organised by the Indian Journalists' Association for his latest book 'Cricket Cauldron: The Turbulent Politics of Sport in Pakistan' here.

"I think he is in the UAE. The Nawaz Sharif government is very much in favour of taking action against criminals who not only affect Pakistan but also any other countries, whether it is India or Afghanistan or wherever. We cannot allow criminals to flourish in the country. If they come to us, we will take action. That is why I think he (Dawood) has left Pakistan," Khan added.

The former Pakistani foreign secretary also re-iterated the newly-elected Pakistan government's commitment to hold talks with moderate elements of the Taliban.

"Pakistan has been in favour of discussions with the Taliban of the more moderate ilk. But a large number are not moderate. There are those operating in Pakistan who are not moderate. However, Pakistan remains inclined to talk to the reasonable ones," he said.

Since last 30 years we have been seeing the photo of Dawood chewing his thumb like small boy in all the newspapers of India. Most probably Interpol is also furnished with same 30 year old photo. That is why they are not able to catch him. Probably he is now baldy or wearing wig with wrinkles all over his face.

Do you think in Military there is no corruption!!! It is as bad as this politicians.You want to know more you ask a retired officer .He will tell you the stories how the solider's rations are sold in the local market . Before chasing out any person you should know his exact location. So, When Pakistanis claim that they have chased out dawood, then they were knowing his exact location. It is interesting to note that both Indian govt and media still publish Dawood's photographs of 90's! Actor Rishi Kapur's get up in recent film D-Day also shows Dawood in his Sharjah cricket day costume complete with brown sun glass!

Finally Pak admitted that Dawood was in their country thus making their previous administration liers, who were always denying the fact that the don was in their country. We can’t take their word for granted. He could be still in Pakistan. Pak had repeatedly denied that even Osama bin Laden was in their country. Everyone now knows that he was not only in their country but was protected by their military. They made themselves laughing stock when Laden was killed by the US. They know that no one believes their stories about Dawood’s non-existence in Pakistan and that is the reason they have now come out with a new story. If they are sincere in their act, why didn’t they arrest him instead of “chasing him out”? Even if he is not in Pakistan now, I don’t think he is chased out but ISI must have arranged for his safe exit to a new location.
Dawood is Pak’s golden goose and I don’t think any Pak government will ever hand over him to India. Thru’ him they made India bleed economically. The ISI is still going to use him against India.
By naming the UAE, Sharif’s envoy has put the UAE Government in an uneasy position. The UAE has handed over some terrorists to India. If Dawood is in the UAE, can we expect them to hand over him to India? I don’t think they will do it. Dawood is having huge businesses in that country and sending him to India is like harming themselves.

Pakistan is ruled by their Intelligence agency ISI,,, most of the time their own Prime Minister does not know what is happening in their country, best example is Kargil,,, I feel Pak army did not tell Sharief(then Pak PM) what is happening there till they occupied it.
