Mangalore, Feb 2: Addressing a press meet on Wednesday February 1, Shashi Kumar, assistant general secretary, Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) (Madras) at the SRMU convention branch here, said that the railway employees would go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday March 1, if the Central Government fails to constitute the Sixth Pay Commission.
He informed that most of the railway employees get a basic salary of Rs 2500, though the railways is the largest transport system in the country and the Central Government has introduced new trains to several destinations in every budget.
He added that though the government had agreed to constitute Pay Commissions once in 10 years to revise the pay scale, the Central Government has not constituted the Sixth Pay Commission even after 10 years.
